Friends,

Looks like my wife's '03 has constant voltage from the ECM when you turn the ignition switch to run. It's supposed to be 1/2 second according the to OEM service manual. I don't want to replace the ECM and it doesn't seem to be hurting the injection pump. Any ideas or experience with this. I tried searching this forum for this problem, but didn't find any occurance of it.

Thanks, Wiredawg

Do you mean it does this when you just turn the key to the on position but don't start it?
If so then that's because there was a S/W update that makes it run continuously when ever the key is on. Rather handy when you've just changed the FF.

Yep, that's the way mine does with the in-tank lift pump retro.

Yep, that seems to be what's happening. I was replacing water pump yesterday and noticed it while driving it. I checked and appears the control is soley within the ECM. I guess no problem.

Thanks for the reply Bill. Helps to verify no problem. I don't recall this being mentioned before.

Take care,

Ron

I thought the software update changed it to 30 seconds of running when the key is in the "RUN" position?

Anyway, it won't hurt the injection pump. I have a manual switch for my fuel pump. One time I accidentally left it running with the truck off for about 10 minutes. That was about 50k miles and 8 years ago.

I was just reading about someone else having this happen when they put a Smarty on their truck for the first time.

My 05 still shuts off if the truck isn't running, so it seems like its an 03-04 only issue/update??

From what I gathered from a forum member on another forum, thru Brian at Smarty, is that with the recent Oct update it was incorporated. That tells me that it happened in recent months from Chrysler.

After reading your post, I checked the in tank pump in my truck with a stop watch. It does shut off after 30 seconds when the key is placed in the Run position without starting the engine. I've never waited that long before starting the engine and was unaware it was happening.

To answer Wiredog: My original post is incorrect. No, the pump in my truck doesn't run constantly with the key in the Run position.

Smarty did it several years back, before the beta's even, I believe. When Chrysler incorporated it into their software I have no idea.

Gotcha. I know on my 05 it's ~30 seconds. But I was told that the Oct 5th Smarty update makes it run constant.

Wow! That could be, I haven't paid attention to that detail since last updating w/oct 5th software, and haven't started my Dodge in a couple of months, will check it out next time I use it.

Friends,

I added a Smarty Jr to my wife's truck about a year ago. This could be the assignable cause.

Thanks, Wiredawg
