Well XCumminsX I've read a lot of your post and your a barkey young fella who is overly brand loyal. Oh and I forgot your truck is in the BODY SHOP MORE THEN ON THE ROAD. If you guys think I'm the only one with front end problems with the 94 and up Dodges run a search and see what you find.

Actually the truck was in the body shop for 1. 5 months ive owned the truck for 11 months. . Your real good at math i can tell  . Fords are crap. GM is crap.

Thank you

I have a slightly different take on this I guess. I have only owned one diesel truck, the one I currently drive. A friend had a Cummins before I bought mine and I liked it, did a little recearch and bought one. Now that I've had it 4 years and know a little more about the other brands out there I am not even tempted to look at another truck just because of the Cummins. It does exactly what I want it to do and I absolutely love the LOW rpm power that this motor makes and this is bone stock. I think when a person is truely happy with what they bought 4 years later, it says a lot.

Well at least I can read and comprehend. Go back and read all of my post in this thread and see if you can comprehend them all together. My point was you talk about beating the Shi!! out of a truck at least I don't drive around looking for things to run over. (and possibly hurting someone) You remind me of a Bantie Rooster in a Rhode Island Red hen house with ideas of Grandure. Your last remark about Ford and G. M. give it a brake.

My father in-law is GM loyal, has only bought chevys... since forever. But he likes my Dodge a lot and is really considering buying one.

I have owned Chevy and Dodge trucks for the last 15 years. I like Chevy gassers, can't beat the interiors and they have good reliable engines.

But when it comes to trucks, I think Dodge makes the best all around. I had a '73 360 D250 which was a great truck with over 150k. My former '93 CTD was a great truck and it is coming up on 190k with no major work required other than paint on the top of the vehicle (the weather and sun in the desert is hard on paint). And this truck has spent 80% of it's life pulling trailers.

Ford. I have a lot of disdain for the corporation. Too many cases of the company screwing people over. And I just don't like thier vehicles, I don't trust them.

No truck is perfect, but I think Dodge makes the best.

Horsepuller hit the nail on the head; all trucks have the potential for problems, but the Dodge is the best available IMO.

RustyJC,

Please don't start on the 2nd gen thing, or next thing you know, Gary will be over here beating the "glad I bought the last of the 2nd Gen" drum as well!! :) Seriously though, I don't know if the ball joints are better or not on the 3rd gen trucks. Replaced them on my '01. 5 at 60,000 and didn't really consider it a big deal. But one thing is for sure, the 3rd gens steer alot nicer. As far as reliability is concerned, I only have 25,000 on my '03, but I'm pretty happy with it as I have NEVER returned to the dealership since the day I bought it. I imagine that one day, I won't be able to say that anymore. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for that day to come.

Cheers

Dave

But it's twue, it's twue, it's wewwy wewwy twue! (ref. Madelyn Khan in Blazing Saddles). My tongue was somewhat firmly in my cheek as I typed that - note the

Dave, notice that both of my trucks are 2WD - no steering issues. ;) :D

ATA you need to chill, Im with XCumminsX, As far as diesels go Dodge definetely has the best contract w/ the Cummins... . As far as gassers go the 8. 1 Vortec in the G. M. 's is hands down the ass kicker, laughs @ those V-10 jokes that Dodge was putting under some hoods and Fords V-10 I wont even comment...

Run over whatever you can get away with

I agree. Dodge/Chevy/Ford... they are all a bunch of #2 (and I ain't talkin' fuel, either). I bought a Dodge 'cause it was the only thing without 18 wheels that had a Cummins in it (okay, I know that isn't accurate... but it helps my "Drama Queen" rating). No truck... no make... no model... is going to have the life expectancy of the mighty C.

I'd be mighty pi$$ed off too if I were in your shoes. Money is money... regardless of whose pocket it's going into. All that matters is that it's coming out of mine. I hope that you decide to stay with Dodge (read: Cummins), but if not, then I wish you the best of luck with whatever you end up in.

Heck, if it came with a Cummins... I'd of bought a Yugo. Mmm... a Yugo with stacks...

Dave

Well put... . The brand war thing is and always will be so biased. . Because some people use their vehicles harder and some mantainence better, some have bad luck etc... . Then there are those(80%+) who are loyal to what their dads had growing up, My dad was 100% G. M. only Gasoline when I grew up, he now has a 454 Vortec GMC, hell he's now getting the new 325/600 and a DODGE!!!! So it all comes down to the soul of the truck not the stupid a** nameplate it wears... I hate brand wars!!! Put a Cummins in it and I will drive it... .

No wonder your truck is a POS

TRADE YOUR TRUCK IN AND GO BUY THE POS'S YOU SEEM TO BE SIDING WITH... HAVE FUN WITH V-8 JOKE FAKE DIESELS. .

LMAO... ...

Good lord people please settle down no need to fight I talked with my service manager today we will talk with the district manager next week because he is on vacation... If they can they will help with the warranty I hope the will I really love my truck I was just upset when I said that I might look into ford... . I plan on keeping it for a while longer we'll see.....

XcimminsX, I didn't think you could go back and read what I had said and under stand it. And then you come back with an even more idiotic statement. Oh did you have a big enough COLOR CRAYON to write that or did you have to use the whole box. As for you guys that keep saying the Cummin's is the best. I have never said any about the Cummin's just the weak front end that's under it.

GM trucks sure have allot of neat little gadget's to play with. When a friend of my bought one, I told him to stop over so I could play with all the buttons it had. . I especially like the way the mirrors drop down so you cant see I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER when you put it in reverse:D

Ball Joints

This is my first Dodge CTD, I've owned a Ford F250 and didn't have too much trouble. Lot's of my friends own Fords and like 'em. A few own GMC's and enjoy those too.

I was pretty surprised when I failed state inspection last year b/c of bilateral bad ball joints

But then I thought about it a bit and here's what I came up with:

1. I use this truck for commuting and a good stretch of it is typical New England frost-heave, pot-holed, half-repaired tarmac. Pretty hard on anything made of any material softer than diamond.

2. This Cummins is great, yes. But have you seen how much this thing weighs? And the mass of that NV-5400 is huge... . All that weight has to provide some strain on that front end... . regardless of the manufacturer who built it.

Between typical driving on a variety of roads and the mass of the ETH/DEE, I'm not surprised the ball joints wore out. Maybe there's better ball joints out there, but I'm not *****in' about it.

GM/Ford/DC manufacture lots of vehicles. I don't think any one of them is far better than the other. It just ends up being a battle between models and the year they were built. Most of us buy the Dodge b/c of Cummins and yeah, I think overall Dodge makes a decent truck. If the CTD had been placed in a Ford/Chevy/GMC truck years ago and attracted a following, many of us would prolly be there yammin' up the same topic, but about different makers. Oo.

:D

I have driven some BMW's with that feature and absolutely hate it.

With these ball joint posts seems like it would be a good idea to drill and tap them for grease fittings. The aftermarket replacement joints have the fittings and I haven't heard stories of those going bad also.
