The 04 trucks work the same as the later models. The idle up feature is included in the standard ECU flash. It just needs to be activated.

If you have a very late 03, and IF you can find a tech that knows what to look for it is rumored it can be made to work on some 03 models. :)

Tell you what, just so we can stop with the "yes it is, no it isn't" dreck, I propose the following:

You put me in contact with ONE single 2003 owner who has successfully activated cruise control high idle in a stick HO, and I will personally drive down to Mountain Home with a fifth of your favorite "in hand" for delivery to you.

With that on the table, I'm done with facts versus "rumor. "

Huh???

I help you out with schematics you wanted and point out you MAY be able to get a flash that will work for you, and I get attitude??

For the record, I was told by a DC tech that if the revision number was at or above a certain point the idle up feature could be activated, and, that revision number could span the 03-04 MY's. Do what you want with the info I freely offered cuz its gonna cost ya at the dealer.

There, that should clear up the "dreck". :)

(DSG) Diesel Service Group, Makes the Best one I have ever seen (Also installed In My 03) it is fully adjustable and can be engage with the auxiliary Button on any Auto starter,So you can Auto start your vehicle and Ramp Idle from any Remote Location.

WSimons,

I have a DSG unit I would sell you. I had it on the truck but took it back off. I have an espar, so don't really need high idle for much.

PM me if interested.

Well I just sold my 99 and I am going to try this in my 04. I am currently trying to find the pin to do this. I also have two friends with 03 that have smarty's and one I know has the new flash to the ECU as mine does (according to the sticker under the hood). I will post my findings when I get the pin.

We will see what happens.

FYI, a Cummins shop should be able to get you the pin, #3164263 ECU wire.

i'd like to try and see if i could get the high idle to work on mine. . ground the pin [22?] on the ecm and hope smarty software will make it work. .

someday...

I had called just called BD when I typed up my "BD does not sell them" post. The unhelpful young lady I spoke with did not volunteer that they had previously sold the kits.

Before I bought my DSG kit, I bought a BD version. The BD was supposed to be nicer, because it was load-sensitive (the DSG kit isn't).

The BD kit wouldn't work with my truck - it only worked with trucks whose APPS is mounted on the intake horn.

It took quite a long time to figure that out, because no one at BD had any clue what they were selling - I had to figure it out for them. Eventually I returned the item to them. The whole experience soured me on BD - I don't really trust them anymore.

I notice they're still listing it on their website here. , but I can't locate it on their price sheets. It's a shame, because the unit they advertise has a lot of features I really would prefer over the DSG.

Well I am not sure what ECM flash it has. There is just a sticker that says there was some kind of ECM update done. The only Smarty program on it is the 4. 4 beta.

Well the jury is in, This does not work on my 04#@$%! with a build date of 08-2003.

Bummer.

Here is the TSB for the high idle enable for all engines built before December 2003.

TSB 18-004-04

You must completely reflash the ECM with the base software then load the TSB flash for the high idle. It reads like this is for automatic trans only (handshakers may be out of luck or ???), and, it looks like it will work on all ECU's back to 98 1/2. Somebody needs to check this out then we can sticky this thread. ;)
