I'm having a heckuva time figuring out which seal to order. I am having my cousin change my rear transmission seal and it's really confusing which to buy, even by looking at numerous websites. Do y'all know which part is correct? And then, I also see stuff about a repair kit or repair sleeve. I just don't know.

I guess we would need to change the bushing as well? Interesting that I don't see the bushing on RA website except for automatic trannys.

National 2465 should be the correct seal. I haven't verified it though. O'reilly sells it under their brand (MasterPro) using the same part number. I prefer to support small businesses such as Torque King (linked above) but my lack of planning usually prevents me.

Correction...I was wrong about the National 2465. Look for a Napa / SKF 22049 instead. Cost is around $50. I put one of those in on Sunday. It is the correct rear seal for the NV5600.

I was fooled by the National 2465 - it looks similar but is too small by about a half-inch in diameter.

To remove the old seal, first I carefully used a chisel to bend the lip of the old seal inward. Then I very slightly deformed the seal inward using the same chisel, to release some of the pressure of the press fit. At this point, a conventional seal puller (Gearwrench 3245 or similar) should be able to pull the seal out. Be careful with the seal puller since the driveshaft support bushing is right near the seal. I ever so slightly marred the bushing, so please be careful. A slide hammer would be a better choice than the seal puller in terms of avoiding bushing damage. But I don't know that there is an attachment for a slide hammer which would grab the inside of that seal. I'm sure you guys have some creative ideas to get that seal out.

The original seal lasted 170K miles and 17 years. Pretty good, thank You Lord.

Been a couple years now so I can't remember for sure if we got the wrong smaller one and had to reorder as well or not. I know I had something that didn't fit but can't remember what it was. Thanks for the info that others can use.
