My truck has 75,000 miles and I am currently 5000 miles into the third camshaft and cam gear. Each time the tech's state that the cam gear exceed's runout limits. When I ask what the limits are and how much runout it has I get a confused look. The first tech said the runout could be seen with the naked eye.

I bought the truck at 65,000 and really didn't notice the noise, being new to a diesel. After some friends pointed it out now I can here it in several 2003 models. I am told that 2003 was the introduction of a new block. Any one else experiencing this problem ?

Also have any of you heard of warranty code WC710 ? I have gotten several different opinions on it from a service manager, district rep, and even the customer service people at Diamler Chrysler. At first no one had ever heard of it, then after I produce evidence that my truck has it they want to know how I found this out. I can only assume it is some secret code that Diamler Chrysler did not intent for me to discover.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated !!!!!

WHAT DOES THE NOISE SOUND LIKE ?

I had runout on my cam gear. The engine had a uneven-like gear ringing noise at idle. At first, the technicians did not believe there was a problem. So I went out to the lot and drove a new truck up to the showroom. I started it up next to mine and then started mine up. There was a noticeable difference. After swapping injector pumps and injectors, STARS diagnosed it as cam gear runout.

The gear is pressed on, so it involves a new cam. I talked to someone at cummins in columbus (who I kept in touch with because of the amount of time my truck was in the shop), and he mentioned that there was a "small" amount of cam released that were bad.

What "small" means, that's anyones guess!!

Cam noise and WC710

Hi this is Randy again. I have had nothing but trouble with this truck. Starting with the cam and also an RPM induced vibration from the engine and or trans. Selling dealer replaced the driveshaft in hopes of fixing the vibration. When that didn't fix it I took it back and they agreed the vibration was still there but they would not try anything else because the driveshaft replacement was the only fix Dodge had for it in service bullitins. They even went as far as to say replacing the trans would not fix it.

Back to the WC710. I talked to the Techinacal people at Dodge three times trying to get some background info on my truck. Each time I was told they could not tell me anything about the truck because that was privilaged info for Dodge only. And the only warranty info they said my truck had was what was listed in the owners manual. After I informed them I had a copy of my PF14 report ( I think that is correct ) that listed my warranty as more than the owners manual said they got very defensive and wanted to know how I was aware of this. Now to my amazement they did see the WC710 code attached to my vin #. But their interpretation of it was nothing more than a duplication of what the manual said. When I told them it made no sense for a special warranty code that clearly states my truck has something above and beyond the standard warranty ( as stated on the PF14 screen ) to only be the equal of the standard coverage , if the WC710 was not something above and beyond the standard coverage then why was it there listed on my print out and on their computer screen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got very suspicious when the service director of the selling dealership tried to charge me for the cam replacement ( which ended up being covered under WC710 ) but he acted like he had never heard of it and wanted to know how I found out about it. Even the people at Diamler Chrysler said they would have told me about the existance of the WC710 if only I had asked them. My reply to them has been, without my copy of PF14 that shows me the code how would i ever know to ask them about it !!!!!!!

What do all of you think about this MISLEADING, UNTRUTHFUL, activity from this manufacturer.

Come on TDR members does these problem and the secrecy of the WC710 code not bother any of you ? I pray none of you have to experience it.

I still dont understand what WC710 code means, how is it applied and why. And dont be afraid to talk about it its still a free country I think.
