I know this is an old subject, but I wanted to post the results of my CA smog test. My truck has an aftermarket 4" exhaust system, boost and EGT gauges, and has used an Edge Box (although that item had been removed and was not on for the test). The truck has 135,000 miles (yeah, I know, no biggie... ) It passed. Here's the comments written on the certificate:

There are notes on the smog certificate:

No underhood ECS label - only placard on top of engine

Vehicle equipped w/ aftermarket exhaust system appears intact and did not eliminate catalyst as vehicle was not originally equipped w/ cat.

Engine also has aftermarket boost pressure sensor on intake manifold & exhaust temp sensor on exhaust manifold. Acceptable modifications.

Removed plastic cover on valve cover for visual inspection of PCV system & appears intact.

Visible smoke: no smoke at idle, only lingers 1. 5 seconds at snap throttle.

Amazing. The testers in our area have no idea whats going on under the hood but they do want you to hold it to the floor while they take a reading. Um, no. I know that all they look for is a certain temperature of the exhaust so I give it a slow ramp up to 2500 RPM and everyones happy.
