Diesel Powered what????

What the hell is up with diesel prices?

On 8/8/01 as I was leaving SoCal for Utah I passed 4 new Dodges outside of Barstow. One was a black 1/2 ton extended cab 4x4 with a trailer. The others were 1 tons and wrapped in blankets to hide the details each was pulling heavy trailers and followed by a chase truck. The drivers didn't seem to like my slowing down to get a better look.

Guys,

According to the new 2002 options sheet it shows the optional trailor towing mirrors being powered and heated. I assume that these mirrors will be used on the HD's when they come out.

And look, they are actually hauling real trailers with some weight. Not like the Durapad tour of duty with the featherlites full of styrofoam cups. .

Right on DC, test 'em like they are gonna be used. Interested to see what the grill is gonna look like. It's not like I can afford one anyhow... .

On 08-25-2001, I went to the Pontiac Silverdome, Home of the loser Detroit Lions, and went to a Dodge Truck event called "Meet the Mayor of Truckville". It was an invitation event to come out and learn, and drive the new 2002 Dodge Ram. All I can say is I can't wait for 2003. The trucks on display were all black 4door short beds, some with chrome and some sports, the sports are better looking. I sat in the drivers seat and adjusted the power adjustable foot pedals and seat to feel comfortable, I am 6'0" and about 225 lbs. My 5'4" fiancee got in the back seat and said there was plenty of room. I checked it out and there was room comfortably, even for me. However they re designed the interior, the added 3" feels more like about 6-8" more room for the back seat. The rear doors, although they look small, are easy to get in and out of as they open almost a full 90 degrees.

They also had a demonstration set up to show the rams power. The Dodge was a 1500 4 door s/b 4x4 with a 4. 7 litre auto. They first hooked it up to a Toyota Tundra 4x4, hooked with a strap between the trailer hitch recievers. The Ram drug it backwards with the toyota spinning the front and rear tires. The same was done to a Ford F150 ext cab s/b, again drug backwards with front and rear tires spinning. They then hooked the chevy silverado to the front of the ford, and used the ford as what fords are best for, dead weight. The Dodge spun its tires at first, but then drug the chevy backward with the chevy smoking its front an rear tires. This was all done on asphalt.

I must say this truck was AWESOME, and if i could get a new style in a diesel now, my 2000 would already be gone with a new one on order.

Sorry so long winded

Forgot to mention, one of the trucks there did have the flip up towing mirrors, and they are now HEATED AND POWER.

Lawdog, I know. I'm torn between further mods or taking a loss and trading for an '03. Not just for the engine improvements but for the whole improved truck. A little quieter would be nice too.

Benson, With the common rail coming in 03 the engine will be quieter. Based on what I've seen in NADA and classifieds, I don't think you'll lose too much.

yes , this may be all good except .....

we will still be saddle with the same corporate attitude and its merry band of 5 SCREW dealerships .....

all the same

It will be interesting to see what happens with the new trucks, seems like they are all starting to look the same... . I am just about to believe that all makes are actually owned by the same ppl. and they are just easeing us all into one look! I have mistaken fords and chevys several times lately. anyway... ... I will drive a 90s dodge till I die! give me 12 valves or give me death... . err... well thats a bit drastic. Jim

A friend from inside DC's diesel lab has driven the new diesel and says you can go thru a drive thru and order WITHOUT shutting off the engine, it is that quiet.
