2003 tow mirror question

I have a 2003 HO, 3500, 6-sp, 4x4, SRW, LB. I love it, EXCEPT, for the outside mirrors. My truck has the tow mirrors, the ones that you rotate 90deg for towing. I've only used it briefly for towing and have no complaints about the mirrors when in the tow position. MY complaint is with the mirrors in the non-tow, or normal, position. When I have the mirrors adjusted for highway driving I can see traffic behind me OK, but when I go to pull into a parking slot, I usually can't see if I'm within the white lines, not even when I look at the convex section of the mirror. Wish I could see where the rear wheels touch the pavement. To see the lines, I have to rotate the mirror(s) down a little. I really don't like having to stop in the traffic lane, push the appropriate mirror buttons, and then wait until the mirror rotates down enough for me to see so as to finish parking.

It's not only that I can't see the lines, I've had one situation when I knew I was next to a low-slung sports car, but couldn't see it in the mirror until I adjusted the mirror.

Anyone else have that complaint? Anyone have a solution?

No complaints here. I do place the left one down enough that I see the tires and lines and I leave it there. I can still see behind too, no blind spots. I'm 6' 5" though, maybe I sit higher? Mirrors seem great for me. Only a little vibration at idle.

I also have that problem of not being able to see the parking lines or my tires, especially when in parking situations and going around curbs.



One thing DC could improve would be to put the Convex mirror at the bottom of the Main Mirror instead of the top. This way it would be at the bottom both in normal and towing positions.



In Regards to Parking lots most parking lot engineers must drive sports cars! Here in Alberta over 50% of the vehicles driven are "Trucks" (I use that term loosely, because a Jap SUV is not a Truck), and the parking lots are a nightmare. The best ones out there are COSTCO Lots, probably because you take the Truck and load it up.

i've had the same problem with my 01. cant see parking lines, parrallel parking next to a curb etc. when my mirrors are in non-tow mode. so what i have done is gone to pep boys and picked some quarter round vortex mirrors and attached them to the bottom of my mirrors (in non-tow mode) and they aim at my rear wheels. now i can see lines next to my tires and curbs next to my tires in non-tow. i will try to post a pic (its the best i have) that shows the back of the mirror they almost look oem.

I totally agree with you, my only complaint is the mirrors. In my opinion, the solution would be to have the whole mirror area done in a mild convex similar to many imports. The mini spot mirror mounted in the upper outer area is usless. Would have been better on the lower inside - and independently adjustable...

Simple solution is to not worry about the lines. Hell I take up at least 2 parking spots whenever I park in a lot and try for 4. These "new" parking lot line layouts did not have a dually truck in mind when painted.
