Woo Hoo! I just did this swap!
Knock me on the head for not doing pictures but it was fun to do. The instructions Rob did was good but for one thing. I had to modify/grind the castings on both sides for it to work. Not just the drivers side.
Also I had to grind ALL around the vertical lip a bit as it was dragging on the base. Just grind a bit and test fit until you get the clunk of the notched areas.
I used slim Mech. wire to compress the spring, did three wraps to hold. Put spring in,... . (I used the old spring as it was longer by a bit and it worked out)..... clip on, bent tabs, then broke Wire by way of a chissel..... no problem... . its still in there but thats how it is... ...
On the wires, I just clipped the wires right at the connector and extended them. On the base that is the old one, after you get it back together, there is a small tunnel for the wire to go through, then I connected the extentions, made a jiig around to a square cut out notch next to the center of the triangle. this is the route so the wires won't get pinched. I left off the plastic "T" retainer in the center for the wires to go through there. Wires also go through the foam center of the triangle plate on the inside.
In the connector on the door, the two wires next to eachother are the heater wires. The three below is the power Wires. On the wiring on mine, the white from the mirror went to the blue on the door... on both sides. Cant remember the others but there is a 50/50 chance there, just hook up and test and redo if necc.
Once I hooked it all up, Everything worked good. I used a switch and a 12 volt source for the heaters. I used the power Windows since they are with the key on only. 12 volt went to switch then to a wire to hook to one of the heater wires. I used the blue first hooking it to both the door wire and the mirror wire so both mirrors get power, then the other wire (black) from the door and mirror go to ground. When the key is on, I turn on a switch and the mirrors get warm. A $2 switch beats a $150 new panel anyday...
Glad I did this. Looks Good and now since I have power mirrors, The value of the truck just went up by the fact alone that it has power mirrors... .
