I'm glad we agree that the blame should be placed on the dealership that cheated the member instead of the entire Chrysler corporation.

But then you're probably a Furd or Gov't Motors owner anyway so not likely to be using any Dodge dealers.

No we don't agree and I am still going with blaming Chrysler or Fiat or whatever. Not sure about the revenge thing though.

Lots of people got screwed when the government came to the rescue the automotive industry. I doubt many of those Chrysler bondholders would sit around the Dodge dealer yucking it up over your super funny "gov't motors" comment. But heck they are probably Furd owners.

that trans looks like salvage from the Titanic... holy crap!

The trans works ok, correct? Just leaking? I think I'd proly go after the housing with a needle scaler real good, and maybe a good degreasing and a power wash. Reinstall it with new fluid and keep a close eye on where the oil comes from... if indeed it is bleeding through the entire casting (which I find impossible in my mind) THEN get an exchange.

Why can't they weld the leak ? There is a lot of good welders that can weld this leak for you ! all i can say is now you no why chrysler had to file capter 11 there dealers suck and there customer service sucks. they should just sell cars and trucks with no warranty. you spend 40 thousand dollers on a truck they should stand by it shouldn't matter if you race it in the craftsman truck series.

I called Standard Transmission eariler this afternoon to check and see if my transmission made it there, it did. I spoke to Noey regarding the "issues" the dealer had told me regarding that the trans. oil was leaking through the bottom of the case. He said he never heard of such a thing, but anything is posible! They would have it on the "bench" late this afternoon or early tomorrow morning. I told him I would like a full written report on their findings, he said that would not be a problem. Stay tuned! - Frank

Looks like we found out the cause of the leak! I had dropped off the miscellaneous parts that I had received from the dealer at my mechanics shop last week just prior to shipping off the transmission to Standard. Well my mechanic started to go through the "parts box" to see if he needs to order anything that needed replacement prior to getting the transmission back from Standard. What he noticed was that the shifter box that mounts to the top of the transmission was completely cracked and is the possible cause of the leaking trasimission oil! That call came into me around 9:30 a. m. eastern time today. I did go down to the station and took a look at it - it's definitively cracked! When I got back home around 3:30 P. M. I had a message on the answering machine from Noney at Standard asking to give him a call. I returned his call promptly, the transmission case is NOT LEAKING at ALL!!! They tore it apart, everything on the inside of the case walls show no signs of deterioration at all! I told him what my mechanic had said about the shift tower being cracked and the possilbe cause of the leak, Noey's remark was that very well could be the problem! He did find that my sixth gear had a missing tooth, two of my synchronizers needed to be replaced along with two shafts (he will give me a complete written work order listing all of the parts). The only thing he and Larry where wondering about, was how the sixth gear had a missing tooth? Anyway, the total cost of repairs (including the Power Lube Kit) $1380. 00 plus shipping. Could have everything done by tomorrow and shipped out by tomorrow afternoon. Noey recommendes getting the case sand blasted and applying a good Apoxy to it. I told him I would take care of that once I get the transmission back. I will most definitively be paying a visit to Mr. Greenfield Dodge once I get my truck put back together !!!! Live and Learn!!! Now that sounds a lot better..... maybe not from a $$ view but from a what is broken stand point…

Now the question becomes how can you get dodge to foot some of this bill, it's obvious that the mechanic at the dodge dealer was pretty worthless. I'm not totally sure what a shifter box is, but from your photos it appears that he removed it and if the shinny rusted transmission is actually covered in oil it would have been a given that the oil was coming from the top and not the bottom of the trans. Sounds like the mechanic forgot about gravity. So instead of looking for the real issue they only fixated on the rusted trans.

Good luck Frank, I personally believe Dodge should be on the hook for some of this repair.

Frank,

Thanks for the report. I am happy to hear that the final report is good news. The cause has been found, Standard Transmission has done a thorough and honest job for you at a fair price, and everything should turn out okay.

I would definitely take written proof and photo evidence back to the dealer owner or general manager and sit down with them to discuss Dodge's or the dealer's failure to properly diagnose and repair and whether the repair should have been covered under warranty.

Harvey - thanks for all your help and to all TDR members for your input and support. I'am glad to be part of a great organization !!! I'll keep you all updated, thanks again -Frank

Frank, I believe that when you go talk to the Dodge dealer you take a good lawyer with you. It is not right what they did to you.

WTH! Bring the service manager and the tech some coffee in the morning and trip. heres another idea if they dont repay you come back with a generator a 6" grinder with a wire wheel and go to town in the parking lot near the bay doors (make sure wind is right). the dust will make the techs choke but get all their attention. when they see no porosity under the layers of rust scale. they will start calling that tech stupid. and the manager can physically see then that his tech screwed up and will have to refund you.

It's called Ultraviolet dye and it cost about $5 a bottle. The dealer should have had it and they should have used it! Frank, I am sorry I did not think to suggest it to you when this first started.

On the bright side, your 5600 has now been rebuilt correctly, probably better than new!

SMorneau, thanks for the added info. on the dye. Guys keep sending suggestions or things that should have been investigated (by the dealer). All well help with my case aganist the dealer/ Dodge -- Frank

I just found this thread today.

Frank, sorry about the problems you are having with the dealership concerning your transmission.

The truck in my sig has an NV5600. I also had a piece of a tooth from the #6 gear missing. It was stuck to the magnet on the bottom of the transmission. On close inspection there appeared to be bubbles on some of the other teeth. To me it looked like casting flaws. (I am not a mechanic so that is an amateurs opinion. )

Just wanted to let you know you are not the only one to have that problem with a transmission. I did take some pictures and I have them somewhere.

Stan

so whats the word? did they refund you? by the way they act i got a feeling they gonna try to make you eat the labor to remove the trans regardless. they did remove it... but it wasnt neccessary to replace the broke shift tower. also they are the ones whom talked crazy saying a 3/4 or 1" thick cast iron trans melted through and their crazy talk and lack of fix my your truck attitude prompted you to eat the tow bill which would have been neccessary if they knew what they were doing and or did a better job with diag like using dye...

come to think of it why didnt chrysler inspector insist the use of dye?

Cumminsduallyguy04- Thanks for your support. Standard finished the trans. , being shipped as we speak (should have it by Thurs. or Friday ). Then having it sand blasted and a coat of epoxy applied. Hopefully up and running by late next week??? I will be talking to both Dodge and the dealer about their lack of knowledge when it comes to transmissions. Standard has sent along with the transmission a report outlining their findings. Once I get the report and all the final costs are tallied, that is when I plan on meeting with the dealer. I will keep you all posted, thanks again --- Frank

Bump...

Frank I know I have been hoping to see some news on your transmission. Any cool photos witht the epoxy coating, Would really love to see the 6th gear with the broken teeth. Hope things are well
