2003 Transmission return line quick connector

I have a low mileage 31,000 2003 Ram 5. 9 that we mainly use for summer vacations. I went out yesterday and the tranmission started slipping. I found the transmission fluid low then found a shower at the drivers side front quick connector. I removed the inner fender and inspected the fitting and the fitting went back together fine, I then added fluid started the truck and no leaks. What I am wondering is if that "Quick Connector" is suspect or was it just never fully connected?
