05 engine problem????

Hello all

I was at the dodge dealer today they have a 05 ctd in the shop with a #6 piston bore scored the only thing is that this truck is stock no chip no power box nothing (NO MODS). they did not know what caused this to happen Cummins was not sure what happened . if you look at the walls of the rest of the bores it looks to me as if the fuel injection is putting to much fuel in to the motor and its washing the walls down this truck is a farm truck and farmers are use to letting there trucks idle for long periods of time! the person working on the truck said that this was about the 14 truck (all 05's )they have seen and have replaced the engine . (this scares me!!!!)

could this be the third event in the injectors doing this and if so is there some one out there that can reprogram the computer to stop the third event

the oil in my 05 turns black after 500 miles the oil in my 04 stays clean for 5000 miles plus 04 has 555 / 05 has 610

you could see the cross hatch in the block i did not get the milage but i will monday

I have owned both. My 04 305-555 was a POS! Ball joints, alignment, bad pull to the right, driver seat track, REALLY BAD PAINT, and alot of other stuff that just drove me crazy. Traded it off for a 04. 5 after 10 months and 14k miles. Best thing I ever did! My o4. 5 was a GREAT truck. The only thing I had it in the shop for was oil changes every 3000, the TSB for white smoke, and the TSB for door seals. I just sold it 3 weeks ago after owning it for 13 months and 15k miles. I just hope when I buy my next one (6 months from now), that Dodge is still as reliable as the one I just sold. Im not interested in the Mega ugly cab, just the standard 3500 4x4 SB Quad cab. Had to sell to get my wife finished in Med School. The tuition was KILLING me. Until then, Im driving my Corvette and a Chevy Blazer I picked up from the guy down the street. I REALLY miss my Dodge CTD!!!!!! :{

Ball joints, paint, ect. are the same for both trucks.

Sounds like you picked up a lemon. It happens. :(

Welcome Dave. Don't tell Duane you're jumping ship... ..... :-laf :D

I have one of the earliest build (January 04) "600s", and except for a shredded belt (for unknown reasons) at 5400 miles, it has been trouble-free (knock wood).

Mileage is not as good as the PSD - I get in the 12s puttering around, but then again it is a big dually truck with 4:10s, and significantly more power.

IMO, people have unreasonable mileage expectations for these trucks, based upon earlier diesel experience with less powerful vehicles.

Go for it.

Scott

Hey Scott I knew you would find me over here LOL :) The truck im looking at is your twinn with 3:73 rears and 42K on the play clock. My stroker does well towing the 5er But the CTD has a much better torque curve and i think i want to try one and see if i like it. I looked at 2 at the same place and he started both cold and one had the white smoke and the other didnt the one with the smoke was built 8-03 listed as an 04 and it had 4:10 gears I think i would rather the 3:73. The only thing wrong with the truck was i found 5 differant burm marks in the seats so is fussy as i am i'll have to replace the seat covers. I have him down to $27,900 do you think that is a good price?
