I could sure use some help isolating the clunk/grind noise that occurs when I change direction (forward & reverse) while in 4WD. I've lifted the front end (while in 4WD) and listened while turning each wheel. I can duplicate the noise from either wheel. The noise seems about identical from either wheel. Seems like a lot of play in each wheel before the other wheel and front drive shaft engages, but I don't know what's normal. I am told I need four new ball joints, but I don't think this would contribute to this problem; especially since it only occurs in 4WD. Both front axle ujoints have previously been replaced and now have grease zerks. About 98,000 on the truck.

Any help in how to isolate the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Pabear, I know what you mean!! One of the reasons for putting Dynatracs and Dynalocs on my truck was so I could have a 2-low. It WHAMS so hard shifting from forward to reverse I don't use it out of fear that it will BUST something! Mark
