Down Shifting 48re

If I am running cruise control unloaded coming north out of Santa Cruz toward San Jose on Hiway 17, my 4. 5 2500 will downshift automatically to lower truck speed about 3 mph over target vehicle speed.

Mine will downshift while going downhill if I have the cruise control set on.

The first time it did this I thought it had lost it brains. Actually when I am unloaded cruising a two lane hilly road I had rather just let her gain speed.

When I hit this stretch of road now, I cancel the cruise to keep it from downshifting.

The other way to get the downshift is to either engage the T/H if not already on, or cycle the button off, then on again. Either way will get the trans to drop to third and stay there until you touch the gas pedal again.

I am very much looking forward to having my factory approved exhaust brake installed on my auto trans '06 tomorrow. I should have a report on how well it functions by the end of the week. :)

Buy an 06 with the jake brake it'll do the same . Going down hill it will shut off the jake grab a gear and turn it back on automatically pretty "*****en"

Like new 2004.5

My 2004. 5 CTD has only 29k miles on it and I have equipped it with extra springs and sway bar and it handles my 36' Cedar Creek great. The truck is like new and I am having a hard time thinking about trading it for a new truck. This spring I plan to add an exhaust brake and having the transmission rebuilt by one of the top rated folks we have all heard about. That will be maybe 6-7k but that is still cheaper than trading. :-laf

Thats for sure, "employee pricing" sure did a number on trade values :{

You will have the added benefit of a less expensive e-brake, the Mopar one is spendy, and a much stronger trans without that wimpy convertor. Sounds like the way to go to me.
