Hey there!! I have the great instructions on how to change the manual trans fluid in this beast. Is it really as simple as draining from the lower drain hole and refilling with the top? Is having a Torq wrench a must? I can usually tell when I take the bolts out how thight they were. Trying to save as much as I can and service myself. I already do the fuel, oil, air, filters. Haven't tried the rear diff on my own yet. . thanks!!

Trans is super easy. No torque wrench needed. The small squeeze bottles (like the syncromesh bottles) make refilling easy. If your using some other type of bottle, a pump is recommended. I usually park on a slope (like a city street) so the passenger side of the truck is lower than the driver's side. I drain from the lowest pto bolt on the passenger side, and fill from the driver's side. This allows as much of the old oil out, and lets me overfill slightly (about 0. 5qts). Good luck

I put about 3 quarts in through the fill hole and decided that I'd had enough messing around with the suction gun and making a mess with the fluid. I reinstalled the fill plug, went inside the vehicle and removed the shift tower to finish filling. More bolts and things to take apart but much easier to keep from spilling (for me at least). When I change the fluid again, this is how I plan to pour in all 5 quarts.

Huh. I just got a pump that screwed onto my Penzoil Synchromesh bottles and it was cake getting it into the fill hole.

This sounds like the best way to change the fluid. I will print it and keep it with my maintenance log. Thanks. :)

Man, that was 3 years ago! Now I have to get into the way back machine! I don't know who made it. (It is no doubt Chinese. ) I went and looked and there is no name on it. I bought it at Schucks. It is black plastic and was not expensive. It was hanging on a hook in one of those dang-near-impossible-to-open plastic packages near the gear lubes. Hope that helps.

I just use a weed sprayer. take the spray handle and nozzle off, make a small 180° bend in soft copper tube and insert into end of hose, hook into fill hole. When it gets full, just unscrew the air pump. Gear lube does go slowly, as for the differentials. I buy these things on sale and then just use them for one type of oil.

Sweet! A couple of good ideas there! I have typically used one of those hoses that will thread onto the bottle. For the rear diff on my wife's Jeep, it is almost impossible to get the bottle above the fill hole! That makes it very difficult to get anything in there.

I like the idea of the pressure sprayers! I have like 4 of those things around my garage that I use for roundup and bug spray and stuff like that. I think I will head to the store tomorrow and get another one! They run about $10 from Lowe's.

Thanks guys!
