For those of you following this thread, Eric Todd will no longer give the $1000 under invoice deal. I called to order today and was told "corporate" told him he couldn't do that anymore. The best he can do is $200 under. That's the same price as carsdirect.com, by the way. I just got off the phone with Richard at Gresham and he will still do the $1000 under, however today is the last day to lock in the $2500 rebate. He also mentioned that anything with a limited slip rear is going to take a LONG time to build. He said not to expect the truck before late June or maybe July if I order today. :(

I don't know if this is fo real or just a sales pitch, but I contacted both of the dealers after this thread started some time back, both Rick and Eric gave me what was supposed to be a TDR group under invoice price, I ended up buying from Lilly K. at Desert Dodge in Las Vegas for about $2000. 00 less than their best quote for the same equipped vehicle, beware the carrot and stick!!

Do you have Lily's phone number handy? How much under invoice (not including rebates) did they go? I find it hard to believe they'd be $2000 less than $1000 under invoice...

WMcGuire,

If you don't mind, what price did they quote you & what did you end up paying at Desert Dodge ?

What did KBB or Edmunds give as an invoice price for your optioned truck? (or the actual invoice if you got to see it!)

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks, Dan

Dealer playing games w/ rebate

I need some advice on this. I made a deal with Lithia Dodge of Renton, Wa. on 3-18 for a 04. 5 Ram 3500 CTD 600. It says on the sales contract that the rebate would be $2,500. At the time, the dealer told me that the truck was "on the train" and should be arriving in about a week. Well... . today I get an e-mail from the dealer and he says the truck is due in tomorrow (4-1) and that he will "let me know if the rebate is more or less than in was when I made the deal". I am pretty sure that I can cancel the deal if it ends up being more than what it says on my sales sheet. Getting my $1,000 down payment back is another thing. This is frustrating to say the least.

a friend of mine works for chrysler they have a program called friends and family with this program you get 1 percent below dealer invoice which they have to show you there cost plus you get all rebates or finance at the time on both my 03and 04 quads he saved me over 7500 dollars . my 04 was list 42000 gotit for 37000 plus rebates i could ask him if he could give the program to people in tdr

JEgan, you have sold order protection which guarantees you of the rebate at time of order, and if it's greater at time of delivery you can have that. There is a thread on the DTR entitled "Help! -what rebate?" (search 3rd gen no engine for what rebate). There is a DC number on that thread with a contact, if you have any problems take the number to your dealer and have them contact DC - that should set 'em straight.

If you're reading TDR, you're already saving a lot of money as compared to the uninformed public. Think about this:

I went to a nearby large "5 Star" dealership in Costa Mesa, CA. I made it a point to deal with the "internet" sales manager. They first drew my attention to the fact that they were asking $4000 over STICKER ("DEALER AVAILABILITY ADDER") (over $48k) for 600s. Being a TDR subscriber, I already knew that even though newly introduced in CA, 600s should not even come close to this. For a 2500 SLT they then offered $44K, then a while later they came back with $41 K, and then in a "boiler room" environment they wanted me to tell them "what it would take" to get out the door for less than $40K. While this kind of treatment may be OK for a "walk-on" customer I did not expect this from the "internet" sales guy.

I called Lily at Desert Dodge (Las Vegas). She gave me a price for a custom ordered vehicle with all the options I wanted (loaded 2500 Larime). No, it was not the best price. But for a $40,000 class vehicle it was within a couple of percentage points of what I could get elsewhere. AND during the odering process the price did not change; I always knew where I stood. I met her for the first time when my vehicle arroved, and got some oil change coupons and what-not thrown in as well. Finally, my wife seemed much more receptive to the entire purchase when I threw in a weekend in Las Vegas. . (this can actually eat up some savings but on the positive side some friends of mine actually made money there!)

I did speak to Tommygun. He was very helpful but I could not justify the time or travel expense to visit him.

Finally; if you must import a "non-certified new vehicle" (eg, a 49-state version) into California, there is a special DMV form (no form number) that you can use; but it only applies if your personal vehicle breaks down out-of-state, cost of repair exceeds "reasonable" value fo vehcile, and you are then "forced" to buy a new vehicle to get back home.

DanDee, I didn't keep the Edmunds and NADA, but anyone can easily get the info at their site, the unit I was looking for with the options I specified was about MSRP $35. 800. 00, Eric Todd and was it Rick at Gresham?, both quoted me $1000 under invoice prices of $31, 400. 00 + or - $100. 00, after rebates, Lilly at Desert Dodge quoted a similar price and after several days dickering by e-mail we settled on $29,575. 00 out the door, yes, it cost me $105. 00 for the flight to Las Vegas, but Lilly filled the tank so the return trip, 523 miles, cost me nothing.

I think Lilly dealt fairly with me, and I would buy from her again, if anyone wants to read my e-mail log with Lilly give me your e-mail address in a private message, it is too big for this space.

Thanks guys. Your help is awesome. I feel much better now and I am much better prepared. The deal I got was good (very close to invoice) but I had no trade-in and didn't need financing so they are trying to squeeze me in other ways. They also tried to charge me for "Business & Occupation Tax charges" to the tune of $200. but I called them on it and they "waived" that.

Again, thanks for your help. This TDR site is truly amazing. I'm getting exited about actually getting my big Dodge Turbo Diesel.

Ooops! I left out Lillys address, it is -- email address removed --

her cell ph. # is 702-524-6900, I reccomend that anyone interested go to the official Dodge webpage and find the dealers in the Las Vegas area, then search the inventory to see if she has what you are looking for on the lot, deal with her by e-mail, if you settle on a deal then call her, the internet gives the consumer a lot of power if used right.

WMcGuire, thanks for the reply... sounds like a great out the door price at Desert Dodge! I'll certainly keep them in mind if my local deal of invoice minus rebates fall thru.

One last question, did you have to order & wait, or did she have a Calif. truck on the lot?

(I don't think I can tell if the trucks on her lot are CA certified or not just by checking the web, but I can always call her and ask!)

Thanks, Dan

Lilly had the truck on the lot, the 20004. 5 diesel Rams are 50 state legal, all you need is proof of residency in another state, a drivers licence will do.

The invoice price is a phony number, it has nothing to do with actual dealer cost or holdback, it's not even a percentage of MSRP.

the Edmunds site will give you MSRP - invoice-and-TMV, the TMV (true market value) is a average price that purchasers have reported paying, I figured that to get TMV, a lot of people were paying more and some were paying less, I offered $500. 00 less than TMV, I think I got pretty close to bottom price.

My truck from Lithia Eugene is this deal:

MSRP: $44,205

Invoice: $39,534

Your Price: $38,534

of course after rebates it drops another $3000. 00

According to Edmunds (and this is with the 555 not 600 engine)

the closest I could find, that seemed to leave stuff off I am getting is:

MRSP $44,195

Invoice $39,022

TMV $39,813

That's a WHOPPING $1,300. 00 more then my deal! My truck is built and I have been watching it on rail (via internet). It is now in Portland and somehow it is going to take 13 days to get the final 100 miles to Eugene. That is according to Dodge VinVision web site, not Lithia. So far I've been very happy with Eric Todd. Of course when I go pick it up on the 28th I'll really let you all know!
