I went to order a new front driveshaft from napa for my truck. They asked me manual or auto. To which I said auto...then they asked 4 speed or 5 speed...I assumed all were 4 speed transmissions.... Was there and option I don't recall? I believe mine is a 4 speed as all I see to select are 1, 2, D and overdrive.

Any 2004 Cummins Ram with an automatic is a 48RE 4-speed. He's probably thinking about some Ford 5Rsomething or a GM with a 5-speed Allison.

The 5spd auto, 545rfe was an option with the 5.7 hemi gasser, if the parts guy would have asked gas or diesel first, it might not have shown the 5spd.

The 5 speeds were in the 1/2 tons, the counter help doesn't know how to use their system effectively. Typical response to request for an air filter or thermostat is whether it is a 2x4 or 4x4.

Didn't even think about the gasser HD Rams. I guess that shows how viable they are as an option for me.....

Actually, this Napa shop is a pretty darn good parts house...They're pretty knowledgeable and it's a father and son run shop that's been there 30+ years. It's the computer parts system that isn't smart enough to look stuff up. He did put in that it was a diesel and an HD. It still brings up multiple choices, I was looking at the screen with him.
Then, even if I go onto rockauto.com myself to compare. I drill down through Dodge/2004/ram 2500/diesel/drivetrain/driveshaft....It's lists a 5 speed auto driveshaft and a 4 speed auto driveshaft. I wound up ordering the 4 speed model from Napa. It should be here tomorrow.
