Hello all,

Well, I was plowing with the new truck last night and noticed that the engine was lugging slightly. I was pushing/angling snow (about 6 to 7 inches of light powder) off a roadway within an office complex with the Tow/Haul activated and the transfer case in 4Low. Now it wasn't luggin terribly, but I never remember my 2001 24-valve doing this while plowing. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy about it. Maybe I should upgrade to 4. 10 gears and have a company like ATS do some trans. upgrades? What do you think?

I don't plow so take this for what it's worth. If it were me I would put the gear selector in second and then you would not be lugging?

Correct?

I think what you are seeing is the low speed governor picking up the throttle at idle. I don't think the 2nd gen did this. It sure makes it nice starting a load with no foot on the throttle pedal. I don't think you're gonna hurt anything at that speed while plowing. You certainly don't need 4. 10 gears for plowing!

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't lugging terribly, like it was gonna stall out, but enough for me to notice. Funny thing is I only noticed for about 30 seconds, then it didn't happen again.

Thanks again

Ryan

how low was the engine rpm when it was lugging down? if it was below 1000 rpm then that could be called lugging with low range engaged on the t-case...
