Burning drain oil

Anyone have any information on which diesel engine Chrysler will be using in the 2004 Jeep Liberty and if it will be available with an automatic transmission? Thanks!

The February edition of Four Wheeler magazine just came in my mail today, and there's a blurb about the Liberty on page 20. I wasn't aware of this, but Jeep has an edition of the Liberty called the "Liberty Renegade", with a light bar on the roof with 4 off-road lights. From what I gather, the Liberty will be called the "Cherokee" in Europe. At least that's the impression I got when I read the article. Anyway, enough of my babbling, here's the whole article:

"Renegade outlawed

No Liberty for West Virginia! Liberty Renegades, that is. The state has banned the Jeep Liberty Renegade because the vehicle's light bar is 72 inches off the ground -- more than a foot higher than the states 52 inch height limit on lights. As a result, Jeep Liberty Renegades cannot be sold or registered in the state. Officials are quick to point out that Liberty Renegades registered in other states can drive West Virginia roadways.

In other related news, Jeep introduced the Cherokee Renegade to the automotive world at the British International Auto Show, held in Birmingham, England, in October and November. Although the new model looks exactly like the Liberty Renegade that cruises the states (most of the states, anyway) the international version of the Cherokee will be offered with several non-American options. For instance, The Cherokee Renegade will be offered with a choice of three different engines including the 3. 7L PowerTech V-6 with the four-speed automatic, a 2. 5L four-cylinder common rail diesel (CRD) mated to a five-speed manual, or a new 2. 8L five-cylinder CRD mated to a five-speed automatic. We've just spent some time in a diesel-powered Liberty, and we'll be telling you about it in an upcoming issue, so stay tuned. "

Diesel

Chrysler would be smart to sell the Liberty with a Diesel engine in the USA. I am certain that the fuel mileage would be somewhere around 35 mpg on the road. My wife wants to buy one if they are available, as she is tired of the poor fuel mileage from her mini-van. We shall see!! LOL

I am waiting for the diesel model. The 2004 model would be about right. The wife will be ready to retire her 99 model Intrepid.

The diesel Liberity would make a good replacement.

Yep I would be interested in one of those. I read somewhere that the mileage was in the 20+. That seems low to me. Just I to wait and see.

Jeep Liberty Offers Diesel in 2004

Trailer Life

Jeep is planning to offer a diesel-powered Liberty sport-utility vehicle in the United States and Canada in the second half of 2004, as a 2005 model.

Liberty will be the first light-duty SUV with a diesel engine to go on sale in the United States and Canada in many years. The engine will be a 2. 8-liter common-rail turbodiesel built by Detroit Diesel. It will be offered with manual or automatic transmission and two- or four-wheel drive.

The diesel should provide up to a 30 percent gain in fuel mileage, compared with a gas-powered version. No word yet on tow ratings

I was hoping they had plans on subsidizing it to get people interested and it looks like they are. My local dealer says his first one is going to be on the lot in Sept. My Wife is wanting to get an order entered as soon as they will let her.

If it has a detroit, will it run on oil or diesel? Will the DNR refuse to let anyone drive it off road due to the oil contaminating the environment?

Great. Another diesel that is not CARB approved. I'd like to go and see CARB hq bombed and everyone there blown up

That would be good for the environment
