Went and ordered my 2004 3500 SRW/SWB HO/48RE 4x4 Laramie the other day. Dealer said it should be delivered some time in late August. He didn't have any prices or ideas as to rebates and such, but agreed to sell it at around $500 over invoice. So now the dreaded wait begins :D.

Thanks all,

Ryan

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since I ordered my 04. Anyone have one on order any longer? No info yet from the dealer but I am going to bug start bugging him.

New Caritus

Anyone thinking about purchasing a Dealer New truck -even one with clearance lights- should check out what Dave has to say.

He is a fantastic financial planner dude with a radio show. It is carried on talk stations nationwide and available on the web.

Basically he says that the depreciation on a new car is acceptable ONLY IF the value of the vehicle is insignificant to your net worth/income and you pay CASH for it. Financing things that go DOWN (like a rock) in value is a great way to stay in the poor house.

Dave counsels folks to get out of debt, pay off the house, fund their retirement, and take care of the college fund. You have to use a budget and spend less than you make for this to work. Yes it is very UN-American --as a nation, we are overweight, divorced, and in debt to our eyeballs.

No bankruptcy, no CONsolidation, no HEL borrowing.

Simple, empowering, and effective.

Give a listen.

It is and I do. I don't like to lease. Milage restriction costs too much in the long run. I've only purchased vehicles and haven't had any problem with long term value. My wifes old Mustang was on a lease and we got screwed on that deal. My parents leased a Suburban and ended up having to pay 8 grand in mileage penalties. My friend has a F250 on a lease and has 2 years left and only 7000 miles to his cutoff. He had to buy a junker to drive to save miles on his Ford.

The only way to get value out of a vehicle is to buy it outright and drive it 'til it quits.

Dave calls them "car FLEECES"--according to all the financial resources FLEECING is the most expensive way to buy a car.

FLEECEing is a backhanded way of financing.

EVEN ZERO down, zero percent--doesn't offset the huge depreciation of a zero miles vehicle.

I kept my old truck so long that if I would have made monthly payments for the entire duration of ownership, it would have costs $40 per month. But I paid cash wholesale up front, just like the Cummins.
