2004 radio issues

i just got an 04 3500 with a factory 6 disc from a friend. i had to drive it about 5 hours home. the radio worked fine at first but then it stopped playing audio for a few minutes. the radio still had power and was even showing me station info and song title and artist. a few mins later it started back up. this happened a few more times until it finally just stopped and wouldnt play anymore. the next morning when i started the truck it worked again. i ask my friend that had it before and they never had a problem, but they never drove it for long amounts of time like i did. so i assumed it had something to do with the radio being on a long period of time maybe something inside was heating up. so i installed an aftermarket radio only to find the same problem. radio powers up, displays song title and artist from the radio station but no audio. and ideas?

If it has the factory amp it could be getting hot.

i believe it has one it has the infinity sound and i believe a saw a fuse for an amp, what would be the best way to test this or even bypass it?
