10,000 miles. I had a rear end changed on my new Dodge Ram. Had a growl at 35 mph and then again at 70 mph. Warranty job. This truck was not abused. I started to hear the noise at about 2500 miles.

I was also told by the dealer that an exhaust brake will be out in about 2 to 3 months for the 4 speed automatic transmission 48RE. What a crock! I wanted to put in a BD brake, but was told it would void my entire warranty, including my $990 extended warranty. I bought this truck in May 2004 so I could put some miles on it before I tow a 28' 5th wheeler. The dealer flat out lied to me. Buy the truck and we'll install the brake when it comes out.

Has anyone else been told by Dodge that an exhaust brake for the 48RE would be coming soon and they would install it?

They lied about your warranty as well... They can NOT void your warranty. It is absolutely illegal. Read up on the Magnuson Moss Act. They must prove that your modification DIRECTLY caused the failure of whatever they are supposed to be fixing. Find a better dealer...

The Magnuson Moss Act. Isn't worth the paper it's written on. The Dealer can Void your warranty any time they want and then it's up to you to take them to Court to make them prove your aftermarket part was at fault. So it cost you more in the long run than to pay to fix it yourself. They know your not going to go to all that trouble time and money so they just say warranty void. Not trying to be a smart ***** but that's the way it is.

rear end problems

Hell I was told in Jan. 03 that the 48 RE in my new CTD would be e-brake compatable. That changed after I took delivery in Feb. 2003. Screwed.

ABSOLUTELY... . my experience with my prior ride, a PS that ate trannies... but of course they put one in (I paid for it, rightly) in Illinois, then another 850 miles later in NC, and denied warranty... I live in WA and was on the road. . Think that might have had a part in the decision to screw me ?... DUH

Yep!

I've been there and I'm still mad as hell.

All you guys with these auto transmission problems woudl be much better off if you simply realize that Automatic + Diesel = a really bad combination.

Autos and diesels dont have to be a bad combination. The trick is that it takes a hell of a beefy setup to make it work well. It has been done in buses for decades. The down side being weight and cost that cannot be properly passed on to the consumer to make the whole truck competitively priced.

It's too bad you can only get an Allison Transmission in a GM truck, that is one good auto transmission and would make a fine addition to any Cummins equipped Dodge.

How did you break in the axle? I'm not accusing you of anything, just want to know.

My bet is the "mighty Allison" would take a D*U*M*P if it were behind a Cummins..... much like an alcoholic after a pint of Kessler followed up with some Metamucil 30 minutes later.
