Why has no one mentioned the obvious...

no cam shaft DONT even think about it. !!!!

check out the ford web sight . so many loyal ford owners

are quite ****** off ... just my 2 cents

Here is a nice story copied directly off of Diesel Stop (the Ford PSD Website) entitled: "My truck [2003 6. 0L] was down for 17 days. " Enjoy the read and then make up your mind about getting a Ford or Dodge... .

short story. turned left truck stalled wouldn't start had it towed in. first they said dirty truck no maintence ford wants to see srevice records. major engine damage might need new engine. gave em service records ford autorized repair took a week. then it needs an oil pump and common rail is cracked. 10 days later i pick it up and this is what is on my service report:

1 manifold assy fuel inj supply tube

1 hose assembly fuel tub

1 kit eng gskt timing cover

1 sensor crankshaft front oil

4 nozzle assy fuel injection (injectors)

"performed hard start diag checked fuel sys for psi checked intake and exaust for restrictions and fuel sys for restriction charged batterys due to excessive crank drained battery moniterd pids icp no icp psi present cecked engine oil psi at low oil pump no oil psi present removed oil relief port primed oil pump tried to start vehicle with oil psi gauge installed did not recieve any psi at pump removed front end of vehicle front bumper a/c condensor turbo cooler trans cooler radiator fan assembly and front engine cover to gain access to oil pump assembly replaced pump reinstalled front ed attempted to start vehicle would not start retested system moniterd pids icp ipr vehicle did have low oil psi present removed both valve covers inspected oil feed rails all ok blocked both cyl head injector feed rails individuly while monitoring icp pid found pump psi shot up to 2000 psi when right cyl head blocked removed and replaced right side injectors and replaced reinstalled coversand assembled engine started engine repair verified q/c check ok"

the people that had to deal with my truck went through hell with both the truck and ford. my ordeal with this thing is utterly amazing and almost unbelevable. the poeple at sunrise ford did all they could do to make it as painless as possible (thanks for the hyundai). my service advisor was intelligent and understood the issues clearly but still had a hard time getting this this done. there are some cosmetic problems with my truck that occured while they had it and i was assured they would be taken care of no problem. despite all the issues that arose i am very happy with this dealership. i get the impression that they are getting the short end of the stick also. i will always give my business to this dealer and would recommend them to anyone in southern california.

That said i am very concerned about the reliability and safety of this ford product. i am going to try and get an extended warrenty or i am going to lemon law this truck.

Thanks to everyone at sunrise who worked on my behalf to get my truck going again. :p

Hee Hee they were nice to him and gave him a Hyundai loaner car for 17 days while his $40K truck was broke... Yeah, go buy the Ford...

I was close to ordering a 2004

ford F-350 crew but at the time

Harper ford was'nt taking orders.

In the interim I test drove a Dodge

cummins and liked engine and interior of

the larame. Ford still maintains their mundane interior without change in six

years. Their must be 100 white

ford crew cabs in this town and I needed

a change!

Very happy with the Dodge !

don't buy the Ford

Drive what you like. If you want the potential headache, buy the Ford. How many times do you hear, don't buy the first year model of something new. Duramax comes to mind!

Major dislike of the Ford is it drives like a truck, because of its suspension design. Doesn't maneuver very well. Dare to put a chip, or exhaust or anything on it that could jeopardize your warranty, not me.

Now take the Dodge, drives like a Real truck. It handles great, stops on a dime, drives smoother over bad roads and has power where a diesel should, and is very reliable in my opinion.

Yes, there are issues with the Dodge, the transmission is crap, but I know this firsthand, I've BUILT a few over the last 3 years.

From my other post....

Just say NO!

If you want to buy a Ford go right ahead but this is why I wouldn't:

I would have bought a Chevy but the prices are too high, styling is poor, and no ground clearance. IMHO Fords are overrated, also lack styling, and no ground clearance. I have heard a lot of stories of Powerstrokes blowing up but never have I personally heard of a Cummins missing a beat. I think the auto trans in the Dodge is lacking and time will tell about the 48re. I got a six-speed manual for this reason. Also, I can't stand the metallic sound the Powerstroke makes, like it has silverware in the motor.

How about cimplicity? Take a look under the hood of a Ford or Chevy and tell me why someone would want to work in that mess?

Why is it that whenever I pass a guy in a Ford or Chevy the guy always eyeballs me, like I'm a girl or something? Maybe it's because I have a better looking truck. The only thing I would change is the dash vents. They remind me of my my Dad's '78 Ford wagon when I was a kid. The dash in the 2nd Gen was better.

The rest of the truck is A+ including the 300+ HP and the grunt is incredible. How many Fords or Chevys win truck pulls? I agree with the other guys, if you want speed go for the V10, if you want to pull, get a Cummins.

Best of luck to you and if you purchase a Ford let us know how you like it after 2 years.

If you want piston-slap...

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I am not a fan of 10 cylinder engines. I've heard piston-slap complaints for both Ford and Dodge V10 engines. Come to think of it, I'm not really a fan of V-style diesel engines, either. I'd say go with a souped-up V8 for speed (anyone hear of people modifying the new Hemi yet?); an inline 6 for diesel power and a Cummins for longevity.

It concerns me so of what I have read,,,,,, Forget the awsomeness of the Cummins Engine,,,, and the problems of the 6. 0L PSD,,,, The Dodge Truck is hands down the better Truck. Thats why it was Motor Trends Truck of the Year,,,,, a contest in which it beat the 6. 0L/torqueshift 5speed auto. The Dodge had the best brakes in the class, the highest towing cap,, I love the cummins motors but I would drive a Gas Dodge before I would drive a Ford with a Cummins

Me too Trizae. I've had all three and a couple of Japanese vehicles too. I prefer the Dodge over the rest. The Cummins is icing on the cake. If no Cummins, I'd opt for one of the last V-10s in the area.

If you feel the Fraud 6. 0 is awesome. I'll be the last to try and talk you out of it. Go for it. You'll have plenty of company over at the pity party.com.

I think right now the only thing anyone can complain about the fords are there 6. 0L. I know, thats a major part, but I do think they will get it sorted out. Hey, they have to, ford is in such bad shape this could do them in if they do not. The y scraped the v-6 diesel program and that is estimated to have cost them over 200 million dollars. Why do you think they are selling 03 ford rangers for 7900. 00, 03 f-150's for 9800. 00, and 03 mustangs for 10500. 00 where I live. They need to move inventory, and get some cash. The fords have the upper hand on dodge, they just need to get the engine thing worked out. I wouldn't make a diesel move for a while if you didn't have too. The new super duty will be out next year and it will be interesting to see how dodge reacts. They have got to atleast replace this piece of ****t auto transmission with something a little more rugged and advanced.

Another lost sale for Ford.

The 6. 0L is such a big problem that yesterday I was talking to a guy that owns a super BOMBed 7. 3L Ford and sells performance parts for all three makes. Guess what his newest truck is? A 2004 Dodge because of the 6. 0L problems. He still has his 7. 3L Ford.
