I was just thinking. If all the hardware of 2004 305/555 with 2 injection event is basicaly the same as a 2005 325/610 with 3 injection event. Would an after market box company be able to bypass the 2005 software or reprogram the computer to work with 2 injection event instead of the existing 3rd pulse sequence? All would be left is to fix the intake, exhause and possibly get more MPG. :) Any opinions?

Not sure if I follow you. . from what I have read the fueling box people only alter the main injection event. As for mpg I am finding my 05 does just as well as the 03 when driven easy.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the third injection events primary purpose to fire as the exhaust valve opens, allowing the additional heat to enter the exhaust system and heat up the catalytic converter? The cat's work better when really hot.

I don't know how true this is but, this is what I have heard.

adjusting mechanically the electronic timing can help your fuel economy too... [either a rokktech modified crank sensor, or a re-clocked crank sensor tone wheel... ]

that is more or less what the 3rd event is for... to keep the cat hot

The hardware is not the same, the entire head, valves, injectors, etc. are different between the 555 and 600/610's, among other parts.

Whats this about a rokkteck modified crank sensor or a re-clock crank sensor tone weel for 2005's? Where can we get this?

Ok more gas mileage, now you got my attention. I have friends that own a first and second gen truck and now I own a third. I'm not looking to bomb mine (sorry guys) but I would be after the best mileage I can get. I know what the kitty is but can you explain the possible better fuel mileage to me? Thanks in advance.

I found the www.rokkteck.com site. This is a great item but it refers to re-ajusting the timming and not realy getting rid of the 3rd injection impulse right?.

yep. the 3rd event is still there, but the increased timing will help out power and should help fuel economy too. .

Has anyone recorded a gain im mileage and drop in EGT's after removing the CAT?

I hear the straight through designs of the CAT's today have little if any backpressure.

I lost some egts when I lost mine last weekend. Sounds a lot better and I can run harder on the TST now and not hit my backdown. It also smokes more and cools down to 300 way faster without it. Spoolup also increased. Haven't noticed a mileage gain, and I probably won't, but the other positive effects were nice.
