2014 dodge dart

I'm looking at a used liberty with camshaft problems........2.8 liter diesel. I owned one before but got rid of it due to repeated EGR failures in the cold and never really got into the engine at all. Anyway, can any of you guys offer advice on top end info on these engines like known cam/rocker/lifter problems? The local dealership diagnosed it as loose camshafts...........as in one is free spinning!

Any advice? 120k miles on it btw.

Jeep GC

That motor is made in Italy and it will be expensive for parts. Why not go with a Jeep GC V-6 gas you will get same or better miles and much more room inside for cargo.

Because this jeep is only 1000.00! That's why! :-laf I'm just looking for a town beater that has some mod potential......maybe put a pressure box on it and delete the emissions.

I would jump on that in a heartbeat......

It looks like that Jeep forum linked above could get you the info needed.

Rockers are probably shot. The LOST forum will tell you all you need to know. Go to Keith at Green Diesel Engineering when you get ready to mod. He knows his stuff.

Lost Jeeps is a vast pocket of knowledge, and free to join. My sons 06 has a problem with GLOW PLUGS, this is a known problem. Read up on the Camshaft repair and learn all you can if you decide to do it your self. Also another mod you can do is install a fuel pump in the tank. There is install instructions on there site now. A Dodge pump works, you'll see.

I'll be doing all the work my self. Going to pick it up tonight! Yes, the rockers are most likely the problem........from what I've read. My local machine shop has a good line on parts and it will definitely get everything bad deleted as well as the in tank mopar pump! This thing has a lot of fun potential.

Check out green diesel engineering he did the prototype engineering for jeep when they came out with this.I have one and love it.Just use it a daily driver

Swapped my 06 CTD intank fuel pump into the Jeep and the Jeep canister into the truck. Works like a champ. I just didn't change the float arm and now the Jeep has about 2 gallons less fuel than the gauge reads - Doh...

IDParts is the one of best (and only) places the get CRD parts.

Didn't get it last Friday as planned......small hiccup at the dealer. The current owner was having issues contacting them about paying for the open ro. Will probably pick it up one night this week after the bill gets settled.

Got it today....and the run down on what the dealer did OR didn't do! Stopped running on the owner and he had it towed. Dealership randomly threw a new ecu on it "because it had strange codes". Wow.......that blew me away. After the ecu install, still no fire and same codes present. At that point they called star and star said, "Duh! Compression check !" Instead of a compression check they looked at the timing belt and saw it was damaged and cried dead engine.

I'll have it torn down next week......I'm betting bad rocker arms.
