2005 in tank lift pump dead ???

P0243 diagnosis points to bad ECU.

Considering 2 pc. exhaust manifold... have some basic Q's...

I do not disagree at all. That is why I run a 2 micron Racor filter (R90S) on my truck after the tank with the oem filter in place as a "backup".

That being said, Asphaltenes can appear in all diesel as it heat cycles, and as it starts it will be a small particle, but left unchecked or if the fuel is not used up that quickly compared to heat cycles, it will bond together creating larger masses. I have seen tanks that look like they have small black pellets in the bottom of them.

Also if you have ever pulled your fillter and seen this (not my truck, but picture from google), then you are seeing the begining of them forming.

Update. Finished installing the new LP last week. While the tank was down I spent a lot of time getting rid of rust and painting there.

To test the LP, when I finished, put 5 gallons in (fuel gauge a little above 1/8 tank) truck started right up.

Since the tank the tank was bone dry, I was curious about the fuel gauge. With the needle at the top of the full mark, 31 gallons +/- 1/2 gallon.

Removing the green ball at the filler port inside the tank resulted in top topping off the tank a little quicker but not by much. The tank's capacity is indeed 34 gallons.

Final note, used Power Service Kleener, There was a slight increase in fuel mileage and the engine ran a little smoother.

I am not a chemist, so does anybody know if something like Sta-Bil would help keep these asphaltenes from dropping out of solution?
