2005 (May 2005 Build) Reflashed -- Dealer Mess Up?

Hey Guys -- Took my truck in for some assorted issues and one of them was the blue / white smoke on startup after sitting for a few days. I thought it might be an injector. Came back to pick up the truck and found they did a reflash. I didn't know they had new code for trucks built as late as May 2005. They showed me the bulletin dated from fall of 2004. I told them that was from before my truck. Did they screw up and flash me old code? Is that even possible?



I noticed two things.



1) I gained about 1 to 1. 5 mpg on the overhead

2) The oil pressure "faux guage" only goes to just to the left of the center after warm up when at 750 rpm and not at 1/3 like before. Above 1000 rpm, it's still about the same position just right of center.



Otherwise, can't tell much difference.



Anyone know about this stuff? Sorry if this specific inquiry (May 2005, etc... ) has been asked before.

From what other people have had happen with re-flash was done and not liking results, then they find that the system will not allow a re-flash to the previous version. There is software in the scanner tool used todo re-flash and the ECM that keeps an older version of software from being reinstalled.

What the other guys said... You cannot go backwards on code, however it is possible to have an 04 ECM on an 05 truck as the ECM itslef has not changed since the introduction of the 600 engine. You were due the reflash if you saw the changes as that is what that flash was supposed to do...

So if for some reason I melted my motor, I could buy a 325/610 motor (say, from fordcummins.com) and use my '03 ecm? I could then have the better valve seats that resist higher egts, eh? Pretty cool.

Cools. Thanks guys. Puts my mind at ease.



The only observations I have with this flash after driving it for 3 days is the Oil Pressure Gauge Emulator doesn't read as low as it did before at idle and the overhead is reading about 1. 5 mpg better..... Otherwise, seems the same to me.

Too bad you couldn't install the ECU from a 305/555.

The last info I saw posted on the ECM's indicated there is a difference between MY04 and MY05 ECM's. That would mean it has changed from the intro of the 600. Clarify please.
