So, us unlucky 2005 owners had the only year where you could not lock out overdrive. One of the threads here mentioned that a TSB was FINALLY issued on this (tsb 21-006-07). I had my dealer pull the TSB. While I'm glad Dodge finally issued it, I'm disappointed that it will make us decide if we want it or not and it will disable the trailer/haul mode. I was hoping it would be a 3 position options (like the 2006+). But instead, if I have them do it, I gain OD lockout and lose trailer/haul mode.

My biggest use of either feature is when I visit Colorado once a year towing my Jeep behind the truck. Thus both features would be nice going up & down the mountains. I tow the Jeep often, but this annual trip is obviously the most hilly terrain that I encounter. I don't have any real issues of it shifting in & out much, but wanted the engine braking of no OD, but is there really much engine braking (obviously I don't have an exhaust brake)?

So, that being said, what do you guys think? Is OD lockout more important that trailer haul mode?

I had it done on my 05 and think it is a DC screw-up. Now when using the overdrive lockout it unlocks the tc @ 2000rpm when slowing down. This should be @ 1400-1500rpm to aid in slowing down and for use in the twisty hilly stuff you encounter @ low speed. On my rig the tc will not lock untill 50mph in either mode when accelerating.

So if you are after engine braking under 2000rpm you have to drop to 2'nd manually which you could have done before the flash.

For me it is not. I use TH allot as it makes TC lockup come on sooner and hold longer. I also turn OD off for engine braking.

* When in TH and OD just click the button twice, it gives you TH and no OD until you press on the throttle again but will hold that way as long as you stay off the pedal.

BD has a controller that will hold OD off even when using the throttle if you want and is better IMO than the flash.

Not to hijack my own thread, but you said something else that reminded me of another gripe. On mine and my friend's 06, even when in TH mode, if towing at about 55-60 and encountering a hill that causes a downshift, it come out of lockup and overdrive and almost immediately goes back into lockup. That is really annoying, you get a "double downshift" and then an immediate shift again (I assume it is the TC locking in again). I've not really complained since my friends does it too. Just how it is unless I look at aftermarket TC??

It does seem odd but I am not sure (in that condition) how it would work any better. Locked shifts are hard on the trans so it unlocks for the downshift and since its in TH, lock up is commanded again for 3rd.

If you were to turn TH off it wouldn't do that but then you would be waiting for lock up much longer and that to me would be even more annoying. It would be like driving the 03 I had that only had OD off and no TH.

injuneerz iz stoopid

I think it would be more useful if the flash made tow/haul the default shift strategy. Then we could just turn the OD on and off. I drive in tow/haul most of the time anyway. Don't the Einsteins that dream this stuff up ever use a truck?:{

Calling All Techs!!!

Is it possible to make tow/haul the default shift strategy AND enable OD Lockout for us '05 owners?

Yep... . and input shaft, and shift controller, etc. Low rpm high TQ high load shifts will pop an input shaft easily and raise havoc with clutche packs. Without the ability to manage the TQ all they can do it slip it with the TC. ;)

BD Tow Loc!

My dealer wants to charge me $90. 00 for this fix!

F that! The BD Tow LOC is the way to go for the 2005. . I have been running it for 2 months now and it is the cats meow. . You keep tow/haul functions but, can have total control of the overdrive...

It runs about $225. 00

Cheers, Bill

I also have an 05 2500. I installed an ATS TC , ATS VB & a ATS co-pilot, i wonder if the BD OD lockout would cause a conflict butween the two. Any suggestions ?

If that unit was a plug-n-play I'd be all over it. Just not too keen on splicing wires on these trucks.

It really wasn't that bad...

Just follow the directions and I would say pretty much anyone could do it...

It is REALLY worth it...

If I was to install the BD unit, would it wreak havoc with the warrenty??

IMHO, its almost like DC feels that the owners with 05 s are like redheaded step kids at a family reunion.
