newbie here. First post.

05 2500 4X2 purchased Nov 04. 35K miles. Time to get the door seals replaced under warranty.

Biggest repair was I ruptured an intercooler at 11K. Was towing out of town and it took that dealer two days to get another. They replaced it with a welded model.

Also had a drivers door-lock servo go bad a few months ago.

I agree the Infinity sound system isn't all I expected.

But I'm still happy with the truck.

05 Reliability

Bought my 05 off a dealers lot in May 06, with 37 miles on it. Only problem in 8500 miles has been a cracked upper radiator hose clamp. My last truck was a 95 CTD that I had put a fuel plate in. My 05 is totally stock and I'm disappointed in the lack of throttle response compared to my old 95 CTD. I guess it takes time for the engine computer to decide whether it's going to comply with my requests. I can tell a big difference between the old 95 CTD and the new 05 in the fit and finish department as well as ride quality. I love the 4 wheel disc brakes and the G56 trans has much better ratios and shifts better than my old NV4500. Great truck so far, the only thing that concerns me is all the computerization and electronics in the truck... ... Lektrikman

Got mine in July of 05 just rolled 80K only two problems the torn rubber door seals which I havn't replaced and I had an increasing hard time getting it out of park. To make a long story short it turned out to be in the valve body of the transmission. DC, with the help of my dealer, replaced everything and charged me 100. 00, (out of warranty) I have a 98. 5 with 375+ and the 05 is way more fun to drive!! Love it and MaMa's 06 Mega. in fact the Mega is way more fun that the 05!! Oo.

No real big problems on our 05, ohh yeah except the clutch going out at about 12k! only pulling about 7k lbs on hwy, clutch couldn't handle it. truck completely stock!

Truck still sitting dead in driveway, but the smoke finally cleared out of the cab. Any ideas?

New clutch???? :D

My 05 has been ok. That third shot on the rail is killin me though. Wish I would have takin a more in depth look into the differences between the different 3rd gens when I made my purchase.

I have no choice but to get a Cp3 with my BDDL and TST. My rail can't stay above 20k if it's life depended on it... . AND IT DOES!!!!!

Problems with my '05

15000 miles:rear driveshaft u-joint 24000 miles:right front wheel bearing/hub. 26000 miles:chrome peeling off grille. 44000 miles:replaced tie rods and track bar. 52000 miles:needed all 4 ball joints, left front bearing/hub and left axle u-joint to pass inspection. Installed Dynatrac no spin hub conversion. I bought this truck new in November 2005. I am not impressed with having to rebuild the frontend of this truck at 50k,but hopefully the Dynatrack kit will help some. Other than that,I love the truck. Good power, handles better than my cousins Duramix and more dependable than my best friends '06 Powerstroke. Mike.

Update:75000 miles. Needs another track bar(getting Thuren fabrication this time)and transmission rebuild/replacement

2005 w/32k

Just purchased an 05 2500 4dr 4x4 - Auto with 32k miles. What a change over my 1995 2wd truck that I sold after having it in the shop once a month for the two years I owned it.

Went to rotate the tires - cant get the rims off yet - once I get them off, I will probably put some copper slip between the rotors and the rims unless someone else has a better idea.

Chris

Congrats on the truck purchase .

Sounds like the rims are hub centric, they can be a pain in the rear to dismount . I have a 1/2 ton 76' 4wd Chevy that had factory hub centric wheels on it , tried to remove the rear tires to service the brakes , the rim would not come loose.

You'd swear they are pressed on , that tight a fit with the hub to rim .

Sledge hammer ,driving with the lug nuts loose , liquid wrench and some mild heat all did nothing . I eventually had to cut the rim off the hub with a 1/4 " cut to relieve the grip .

As for my 2005 truck , couldn't be happier . Only down side is the torn drivers side rubber door seal and a recall for the front coil springs replacement which i dont intend on doing because it rides great , the alignments perfect and i dont want the dealer touching it. :)

Enjoy your truck Chris.

I think the lack of throttle response is a function of emission controls. Hook up an Edge Attitude and even on level 1 you'll notice a huge difference. One downside to my '05 is that with the Edge installed I'm making 42 PSI boost on level 2 under full throttle. This seems a little high to me, but nothing has broken - yet.

Door Seals

Bought mine in April of '05, now with just under 18,000 miles and no problems yet. It has been a great truck I am very pleased with it. The door seals are ripped but it doesn't leak and the dealer said if they replace them they will be ripped again in a few months.

Dave

To which I would say, "fine, then I will be back in two months to have you replace them again. " Not fixing a problem because it might happen again is not an excuse.

"I think the lack of throttle response is a function of emission controls. " It's the ecm limiting torque at low speeds (tq mgmt) to protect the transmission.

"One downside to my '05 is that with the Edge installed I'm making 42 PSI boost on level 2 under full throttle. update

Yesterday I finnally replaced the clutch, clutch disc pressure plate both looked like new, the flywheel however had what looked like springs mounted in it, all were broken. other than the lumbar support knob breaking this is the only problems.

Purchased new Sept. 3 05 138,000 miles.

78,000 miles burnt up the turbo (Oil feed line broke and it went quick) Covered by warranty.

127,000 Fried transmission... replaced with an ATS Stage IV transmission
