Anyone found a way to get around the most annoying recall in NTSB history?

I need my weatherstripping redone but I'm not going near a Dodge dealer unless I can undo the horn going off with the door open BS.

This is truly government at its worst. I hope you read this DC!! You suc... ... ... ... .

I have had my truck to the dealer twice for service and they never mentioned anything about this recall and haven't done it on my truck. I would think you could say that you don't want it done.

Hate It

I purchased my 2005 used and it had alreadly been flashed with the recall. My truck horn will go nuts while backing up with the seatbelt latched, which makes it even worse. I can't get around it. The most annoying thing is that if I flip it into park at the same time that I open the drivers door the horn will honk and the lights flash. Makes you look really cool at the local truck stop. I have to make a conscious effort to wait about 2 seconds between placing the truck in park and opening the door to avoid the honk. Local dealer tells me this is normal. I responded that my next truck will say Duramax on the side if that is the case. Needless to say I'm very close to attacking the horn or door latch with a wire cutter. If anyone has had any luck disabling this great "safety feature" I would be glad to know about it.

Iv had mine back to the shop a couple of times since the recall came out and they remind me that it hasnt been done.

I inform them that I dont want it done.

Just because a couple of owners got sloppy, why should the rest of us suffer??

Just scotch-loc the 2 wires together that go to the drivers seat belt buckle. Bonus is you won't have to look at the seat belt lamp either.

Jumping the seatbelt connector won't help in my truck. It makes no difference if the seatbelt is buckled or not. If the door is opened while in reverse the horn will honk reguardless. The only way to have the door open while backing up is to keep a foot on the brake. The annoying honk when shifting into park occurs with the seatbelt buckled and my foot on the brake.

Just had my 05 in for door seals and the dealership did the TSB for the park/reverse recall. I was advised that they had no choice but to do the TSB for liability reasons. Guess I will just leave the door shut when backing!

I took mine in for door seals, told them NOT to do the recall. They wrote on the work order that I refused it, and asked me to sign (which I did). No problem.

1. You the owner of the rig has THE FINAL say on if you want a recall done or not.

2. You who have not had this recall done are lucky because you can DECLINE it. THose of us with newer trucks (2007) are cursed because they have this "thing" done from the factory.

The first time I opened my door while in reverse so I could see the curb, the horn started going off, lights started flashing and scared the he!! out of me. People started looking at me like I was a friggen idiot. DC SUCS ON THIS SAFETY THING and if any one of you finds a way to bypass it LET ME KNOW!!!

The present recall by D/C on the reverse park fix is very poor.

I pull a 5th wheel trailer and during the year frequently back in camping spots with my driver's door open to enable me to see hidden obstructions that may be on the ground. Many people do this.

I do not want to endure icy stares from my fellow campers while my horn is blasting away.

For the third time, I have been urged to have this recall after visiting my Dodge agency for a simple oil change. I have, for the third time refused this and signed a release.

Certanily D/C should have a better way in fixing their problem. If in the future I am pressured to having this done, I will most certanly find a "shade tree"

fix for a better solution.

I went in and some updates for the transmission flashed to improve shifting, I asked if I had to have the recall done, they told me no, but I would have to sign that I declined. No biggy. They also told me, that there would be a time that I may not have the option to decline, if there was a flash I needed, it may be part of it. Or if you ecm, pcm, or what ever m is replaced, it will be on it.

I received 3 or 4 recall notices and the last one had a card in it that asked if it was done or the truck sold or whatever. I filled out the card that it had been done. I kept checking my Vin# at the Dodge recall site. It always said I needed the out of park alarm recall. At my last check of the recall site it said "No recalls outstanding" so the info has been entered into the system and they won't bug me if I have to take it to the dealer.

I agree with a NC relay in the horn curcuit, controled by the back up light curcuit. When ever the backup light is on the horn will not work.

I don't think they ever had a problem, I think its drivers that don't insure the lever is truly in park locked away towards the dash. Instead some have gotten lazy and just tossed the lever up there and hopped out when it wasn't in park.

I think a simple fix would be to rewire the horn and horn switch independent of the computer stuff. Downside would be a silent alarm. (I don't like my alarm, so I would lean this way if I had to deal with the reverse issue)

Im sure inclined to agree with Matt. When my 04 was new, I was selecting the shift positions too quick like my old "93' CTD. It would not shift easy. It would not go in park easy, it took my smarter wife to say, " Chuck, slow down ". It usually takes a person with more common sense than I have to figure out a cure.

I have always thought that most people are not pausing long enough to let these electronic "gizmos" do their thing.
