Please help. The drivers side power seat in my 2005 Ram 3500 48,400 miles has a bar on each side that runs front to back that hits me at the Sciatic Nerve. It seam like the padding has gone away. Now only about 1/2" thick at the bars. Has anyone else had this problem? I have a real pain in the glut.

seat foam

The seat foam fix did not work for me. I ended up pulling the font seats and replacing them with a set of older ones out of a '99 dodge. They were/are a tight fit but they are alot better. It was alot of work though. I am happy with the results. I did this because the original seats were pinching the nerve in my right leg.

I did the seat fix about a year ago on my 05 and have done several trips to Utah.

I did as the referenced article suggested and it works great.

I have to thank "Spooled-up" for the great idea for fixing the uncomfortable front seats. However, I made a modification to his design that worked very well, for me. Instead of the thick, regular foam padding, an upholstery store mgr. recommended going with a 3/4" closed-cell foam material. It's a much more dense material & doesn't seem to collapse nearly as much as the thicker open cell type of foam. It, also, doesn't create a large 'bulge' in the center of the seat like the thicker foam does. This WAS the answer, for me, & it worked great.

I have a friend who has spent his entire life in the automotive design business & is the fussiest guy I know, by far. I explained what I did, to him, & he was impressed with the results.

I don't mean for this post to be critical of what Spooled-up created. It was HIS idea, in the first place. I would have never thought of it. I, even, approached a couple of automotive upholstery shops, in the area, & they wanted hundreds of dollars to fix the problem. I did it for less than $10. 00 & have enough material to do another set of seats.

This is not the end of "Spooled-up's" genius. I did his Fuel Tank Vent Kit Mod & my results were terriffic. I HIGHLY recommend this modification if you like to fill your tank right to the top. IT WORKS!!!!!

I started to do this on my '06, but ran into questions concerning the seat heaters. Do you place the padding under the heater? Or is this mod only for cloth seats without the seat heaters?

My 05 was the same way at only 27k miles, took it to the dealer and they replaced the lower seat cushion, we will see how long that lasts, may have to do the seat mod later.

Seats are junk in these trucks, you think they could figure out how to build a decent seat this day and age.

I did the seat fix, 3 times, it never was a very good seat, I since tossed the front seats, and the console, replaced them with after market high back leather seats, and a provided consol. I had a real rough time modifying the factory power seat tracks to work with the new seats, end product after 30 man hours, cutting welding, fitting is a front seat as confortable as a new lexus, they look like they were installed at the factory, well worth the time, and money, I hated those old seats.

Today I pulled back the seat cover. Once I was able to get the front loose the cover came off quite easily. This revealed a split in the foam cushion from front to back at the bar or actually the seat frame on the right side.

With this knowledge and the information you all gave me I made a stop at the dealer. Mark at Colorado Springs Dodge said no one had ever come to him with a seat complaint such as mine but he did give me a reference for an upholstery shop.

As for the extended warranty that sounded like something I shouldn't be without: I got the same answer on this seat as I got with the leaking clearance lights on the cab. SORRY, NOT COVERED Mr. De Smith.

Tomorrow I will start the repair.

Thanks again!
