I have the opportunity to bid on a 2005 Ram 3500 4x4 quad cab

and the notes say the transmission is INOP. . I plan to look at the truck before I buy, but what should I look for to rule out transfer case issues, or what sounds will I hear to help me determine what the problem could be. .

it is an automatic. . 47RE or 48RE ? not sure which

and also what would the cost be to either rebuild or replace the transmission ?

I think I would probably rebuild with all the high-performance parts (assuming the case is not damaged )

I think I am going to bid with the "worst case scenario" in mind with respect to cost

thanks for any help. .

Its the 48Re

A performance transmission all done up nice (Minus input/output shafts) somewhere near the 4K mark. Usually around the 2,200-2,500 then you have to add for a torque convertor. Hopefully someone will chime in about what could be wrong.

My 04. 5 48re went at 34k miles and took a full rebuild under warrenty to get it right and now I have 64k and the trans is pulling fine. I lost 1st totaly dissappered then the entire trans went. ;)
