Lost 1 gal in 2500 miles. Throwing oil out breather tube, side of oil pan is wet, no other leaks detected. Just bought-
has low mileage, starts runs solid no miss or hard start. Blow by normal, oil fill cap will not blow off when unscrewed and placed on fill hole. Smoke from fill hole and smoke seen from breather tube is normal to what I’ve seen(very large carbon footprint it is). I am aware of broken ring problems and repaired on other Cummins engine models. Not feeling this is problem or turbo passing oil, turbo is possible failure, still need to inspect turbine. CCV baffle is unique to this year 5.9. No external valve cover leaks. Anyone heard of internal baffle oil separator failure ? This is part of valve cover and is not serviceable... I’ve had experience in past from other engine manufacturers ccv setups not getting job done an blowing oil down side of a new truck, aftermarket oil trap was correction. Oil return just might be clogged, baffle filling with oil and blowing out road tube?..I’ve seen oil returns on filter type ccv systems . Can a 2005 model valve cover work on a 06 ? Or a retrofit ? Not a engineer, I question how low the tube is on side of valve cover and why not on top ? Loving this truck, I will find with your help.
