2006-07 Crankcase breather

You know, I actually tried that a couple of years ago but it leaked after a short time and when I took it apart the silicone was loose like a limp noodle.

It was the clear type though - maybe I should use the good stuff for better results. Same probably goes for booze. .

Try using Permatex Ultra Black after cleaning the area throroughly as suggested above. Ultra Black is more resistant to oil degradation.

I'll follow the hose routing to see where they go in the daylight Saturday, I suspect that the CCV is simply a screen in the valve cover as mentioned before.



Will also price my style of valve cover and see if the vent hoses are the same or not between the two styles.



Maybe it be worth retrofitting for the guys that have constant drooling going on, my hoses and connections are dry as a bone.

I am also interested in options for getting rid of the Enviroguard CCV on my truck, becuase even though it woeks fine and does not leak, I have plans to mount a Spinner2 centrifugal oil filter directly on top of the aluminum valve cover, directly behind the oil filler cap, which is where the CCV on my truck is located. In fact, though it is off center (which bugs my sense of aesthetics) the hole in the valve cover where the CCV plugs into is just the right size for the Spinner2 to drain into. It will be a very simple fab project to do this. This is a long term project for me, but I do already have the spare valve cover and spinner filter, so now I am gathering info to make sure it can work.

The crankcase breather assembly is integrated into
the cylinder head cover (3) and is not serviced seperately.
The external fittings (2) to the breather tube and
breather drain tube are serviceable.

Well I spent the money

Picked up my new valve cover from Cummins. Knowing that it only has a 1 1/2 year production run, I figure it can sit on my shelf untill I need it. At my current miles per year, I'll need to replace it in 10 years. :-laf I know most of you think this is a big waste of money. Also ordered the ser. # tag. It may take up to 2 months for the tag to come in. Bottom pic is the date stamp of ??? 18 2011. Looks like Cummins is still making the cover. I'm wondering how many covers are for replacement because of the crank case breather?

Security torx head screws. The head has a pin sticking up in the middle of the "star". Need a security torx head screwdriver (it has a hole drilled in the middle of the "star"). My experience has been that the threads will tear out of the hole when you try to remove this type of screw.

Hay, did you all notice the oil fill cap? I told my wife the truck needed a new oil fill cap @ $170. 00 BUT, it comes with a free valve cover. This is one He11 of a deal! :-laf I don't know if she is buying my story. She hasn't had much to say to me after my explanation for the valve cover. Do all women think this is a good way to punish there husband of 30yrs? Man, it's nice and quite at my house.

I was sure I had sold CV52001 to people with 06 & 07 5. 9, but a lot of my customers have multiple trucks of different years. I researched several 06 and 07 5. 9 ESN today but couldn't find the CV52001. Must be getting old :{ Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most :-laf Shadrach

It's almost 2am so bear with me, i'm having trouble grasping this thread. I have a 2005. 5 that has a breather tube that has leaked since day one. What do i need to do? Replace the valve cover?

The 05 just needs the filter changed.

All breather tubes drip a little, is your oil level going down?
