I would appreciate any help with a few questions I have.

I have a 2006 Quad Cab 4x4. I was coming home this weekend from the mountains and pulling a 32ft 5th wheel.

I noticed when I got to a stop, the engine would rev and i would have to hold the brakes hard.

I have read where that is the TC going bad or already gone I believe.

Truck only has 85k miles on it.

1. Does this mean a complete transmission rebuild?

2. Should I do anything else first, (is it electrical by chance?, change fluid)

3. Who knows someone to reccomend in the South Ga area to do work like this

This is the first problem I have ever had with my truck, so I am shocked it just went out with no warning. I appreciate anyone with information to help.

Usually not, but, changing or flushing the front trans cooler is highly reccomended.

2. Should I do anything else first, (is it electrical by chance?, change fluid)

You can and it might quit for a bit, but, once it starts its damaged. Very doubtful it is electrical.

Depends on where you are. Garmons Diesel is in Griffin and they build better TC's that will do you a lot of good.

update,

I just left transmission shop. He is not sure that the TC is locked up. He test drove it and feels the TC locking up as you drive.

Here is something I need to know if anyone has seen yet.

When I get to the stop sign and put on the brakes, the engine revs like it wants to go, and as it is doing this, you can press the accelerator to the floor and then engine does not rev up any more, there is NO throttle response until you let off the brake.

Anyone had this problem?
Transmission guy says he hasnt' seen this before, and has replaced many dodge transmissions.

Is this electronic? Does the truck computer need a reflash?

Thanks in advance.

Sprag in the TC is locked or going bad so essentially you have a no stall TC.

Typical symptoms are pulling thru brakes at stop, engine revving trying to maintain idle speed, and loss of throttle input.

When you go to park or neutral all goes back to normal.

When you get up to 30-35 mph things feel and shift normal.

Common occurence on the 06 trucks, bad batch of TC's there. Pretty sure you need a new TC. Seize the chance to upgrade to a new billet cover, improved stall, and imporved efficiency TC and you will be very happy. ;)

JUst picked up my truck with a new torque converter triple disc billet.
I didn't want to have to spend this type of money but I will say thanks to all of you, it helped me find and fix the problem quick and I know it's better than it was.

That is a big plus for that transmission the other thing to upgrade is the valve body than it will be pretty bullet proof for your towing. Also see you are running Smarty not good for a stock transmission.
