A buddy has a stock 06. Everything was fine until the other day when he tried to start it. It started for about 2 seconds and died. Now, he notices the heater grid light comes on and stays on (does not shut off). When he tries to start it, the check engine light blinks about 5 times and then stays on; the truck starts and runs for about 2 seconds and then dies.

Will the key cycle trick work on these newer ones to pull the codes?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your time, Jim

As soon as I get codes I'll post them.

Sounds like the computer forgot the Sentry Key. Try other key. Others have had some luck disconnecting both batteries. Then short one of the Pos and Neg cables together for 30sec. Reconnect both batteries.

Sounds like the sentry key a LOT. I too would say try the other key and change the batteries in them. My 06 sometimes won't start at all if the batteries are almost dead.

You can pull the diagnostic codes by cycling the key 3 times. First turn to the first click and cycle 3 times from on to the first click and on the 3rd time leave the key on the on position and watch the dash. Codes will appear and you can check them at Actron®.

Truck fixed. I was given wrong information and it was not stock. It had a module and that was causing all the problems.

Thanks for the help though.
