2006 Amsoil Air Filter & Oil By-Pass Install

Install pictures of Amsoil air filter part # EaAU4090 with the Scotty air filter "adapter" to plug-in the air sensor.

Looks nice, could you add a cool blue hose to that system? How about some pics on your oil By-pass filter!!!!

OK, here are some pictures of the Amsoil By-Pass install. The bracket for the Amsoil By-Pass filter head is courtesy of TDR member John Strenkowski (CPFF) at Tri-County Machine; 860. 642. 7033.

I added a brass "T" on the inlet port of the by-pass filter head and ran a third braided steel hose to a 100 psi oil pressure sending unit mounted on the firewall. Then ran the wires inside the cab and mounted the gauge up in the cubby hole of the floor mounted cup holder.

No plans to use the outerwear cover; Amsoil says the filter can be cleaned with low pressure (15 psi) air pressure and reused. I bought 2, so I can just swap it out and clean at my leisure. I don't know if Scotty would sell the individual air sensor mount, but I don't see why not... ... ... ... .

Side note, the other half rode in the truck for the first time after the filter install and she said: "Honey, do you hear some sort of high frequency whistling noise?" I said I did not hear anything and she said OK. Well, you can definitely hear the turbo, so if that would bother you, the Amsoil air filter is not a good solution, because I can very clearly hear the turbo spool up and down.

I like it.

I love my truck.

I am my own warranty station.

No, the truck is not modified; the air conditioner is stock.

I think the turbo sounds great; I can hear it spool up & down, but it is not real loud, I just know its there.

I would put some type of shroud around it to shield the filter from engine heat and prevent water from getting to it through the front grill.

It might be just me but I wouldn't mount my oil filter right over the exhaust manifold, EGT's can get extremely high for oil ratings.

I also had concerns about mounting the by-pass filter right over the exhaust manifold. So what I did was use the BE-90 filter which is about 2" shorter than the BE-100 (have to change it a little more often) to get a little more clearance and it actually hangs right over the exhaust manifold heat shield.

The oil (amsoil synthetic) is continually circulating so it does not just sit there and the turbo oil supply line is mounted right under the manifold as well as the silicone air intake. The oil in the by-pass filter is not going to get any hotter than the oil in the turbo and I am very dilligent about letting the pre-turbo EGT's get down to 300 degrees F before shut down. The filter is not any hotter "to the touch" than the full flow filter.

TDR member CPFF really put a lot of thought into the bracket location and design. If anything, I think the location of the by-pass filter may help the oil reach operating temperature a little sooner.

I am almost 10,000 miles down the road with zero problems.

its not just you

when i first saw the air filter i was gonna say something about prop wash from the fan, but then i saw the oil filter...

stainless lines are not cheap but i would rather spend a a bunch on them (and of course some time relocating the filter) than drive around with my oil filter hanging right above the ex manifold on a turbo application

jmo

I had the BHAF, a paper filter, mounted in the same place on the truck for the previous 10,000 miles; the "prop wash" and water did not make any difference.

I think stainless steel hoses are cheap. But then again, I am happy oil is at $65 a barrel (hehe) so what do I know!

Anyway, CPFF has been running the Amsoil Dual By-Pass with both the full flow & by-pass filters mounted over the exhaust manifold plumbed with rubber hoses for many, many miles without any adverse effects.

I guess father time will tell.
