Competition Fastest spooling twin setup?

In the last calender year or so it's been lets see: 2 water injection pumps, 2 pump cam shafts with rollers and bearings, one set of P&B's, one complete pump, one exhaust housing for the 66, one set of injectors that were salvageable, blown rear freeze plug, two bottom turbo's... . when I ran Twins, bent push rods (twice) and a cam.

The head is getting checked out now and looks fine and the short block looks fine... ... . no piston damage at all.

I guess I should be thankful that it didn't kick a rod out or come apart like Eric Stangley's truck did... ... ... I would be dead in the water.

Gained parts: 215 pump in good shape

Lost parts: One injection pump, Bottom turbo, EDM'd DV holders, 2 sets of DV's, 1 set of . 093 lines

Parts collecting dust: Twin piping kit with a 44 mm wastegate... no biggie!

Jim, your head's off right now? Did I miss this somewhere?

Ten autos :--) , 4 converters, 1 6 speed, 1 Duel disk, 2 cams, 2 motors :{ , 3 head gaskets, 2 cylinder heads, 1 blown freeze plug, 3 p7100 pumps, 4 sets of injectors, 2 sets of turbos, ball joints, u-joints x2 and a partridge in a pear tree... ... ... ... ... Im sure i am forgetting a few things :rolleyes: . Depressing!!! :{

Dang Brad!

Did you get anything to stay together? :p

From what i was told from a couple of transmission shops was the reason for the auto issues were too much torque at to little rpms. My max torque #s were around 1650ftlbs @2100 rpms. And of coarse you now that backing it off is not possible. :) The other parts we dont want to talk about.

Just a guess, but most likely because they are the most popular single on the market????

Looks like the 2 disc version is failing, too. In all fairness though, it could be driver abuse. I do recall seeing a clutch of a famous west coast truck. That thing looked like it had been on fire! 3-5 hooks on it if I remember right. This is the same clutch(not a SB) that lots of HIGH hp trucks run and get 100 hooks before rebuilding. I guess nothing is idiot proof!

Or perhaps the track conditions are different between East and West, tire used are different, or maybe some folks have to slip the clutch longer so as to not over power a loose track. You can't say its operator error based on your one exsample of some Famous West Coast truck, that would simply be idiotic :-laf any more fine exsamples?

Injection pump seal blew, about 20 gallons of diesel through the oil pan and out the breather. Was heading to Bike Week in Daytona. Found the problem as I ran out of fuel heading around Indianapolis. No signs of problems. Fuel pressure was reading good, and of course the stock oil pressure gauge was reading good. Lost the bearings, no piston or cylinder wall problems. Hasn't seen the light of day since March 06. Hoping to have her done to head to Daytona again next year. Lee.

Hmm, seems to have a better track record than the 700HP+ Dmaxs that are trying to run stock components. :) Some of them are even running billet rods, and upgraded pistons and still are puking. :-laf

Yes it is off and getting checked out while I'm gone. You know I still have never had a headgasket issue... ... . knock on wood. I'll let you figure out why it is off.

Call it a $10,000 year from someone that isn't rich in most peoples eyes, but I still pay my biils on time and give my tithe every payday.

While the stock LB7 & LLY rods are questionable above 700rwhp, no one has bent or broke billet or LBZ rods. There are some "expert" Duramax tuners out there that don't know what the hell they're doing running ridiculous ammounts of total timing resulting in cracked/burnt stock pistons.

While you have handed me my arse several times on the pulling track, there is no doubt that a DMAX can make power. I frequent the diesel place and get to listen to the ranting and raving about how great the DMAX is, and the only dodge trucks that can beat them are ones that have built engines. I won't argue that poor tuning could cause the rash of piston problems that is currently going on. But to exceed 800HP on a cummins is just oring/firering it, slap in some studs and boom 800HP along with appropriate air and fuel. I think it is safe to say that a DMAX will not survive long over 800HP with a stock bottom end, and without custom pistons.

I might have exaggerated a little, I jsut haven't seen an 800HP dmax survive on stock interanal. Look at clint from ats. He got 888hp at may madness and they had to push his truck off the dyno. Where an 03 cummins with a firering job, and stock internal put down 893.

Its been cheap year for me on truck costs, even had a little extra to buy a tractor(FORD)and put a 24x40 addition on the garage. ;)

I even placed ninth in points, locally.

You guys breaking drivetrain parts have no excuses, with the search feature. That stuff has all been broke before, and the solutions are on here.

Too big of a gear + too much tire + lack of HP will kill any clutch, its a proven fact. But ooohhhh so much fun to watch!!!!! :-laf

Well. . Let's see. . My truck ran a total of around 3-4 seconds before blowing a head gasket. My fault, the truck wasn't ready to run. . Jumpin' the gun on my part. . I paid $11,300 to have my cummins engine swapped into my 3rd gen and install my dana 80. It was supposed to cost less than six grand. . I also paid for all the parts. Now Garmon has it, and my bill is $9,500 there to pull the engine, rewire the truck, and rebuild the engine with new pistons. He's also reinstalling the AC. My parts bill total was a lot more than those labor numbers. . I spent more on the trucks this year than my income was a couple years ago. . It's just a legal addiction. .
