My truck is finally reassembled after about three weeks since I shaved the front grille. The project became a little more involved. I had to let the paint cure on the grille for at least 7 days before I put it back on the truck so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to paint over the chrome strip on my front bumper (Laramie Edition). First, I sanded chrome piece with 400 grit sand paper to rough up the surface. Next, I painted it with a flexible acrylic primer. The next day I sanded down the primer and painted another coat of primer to cover the chrome with multiple layers. Finally, I painted the front plastic chrome piece with Krylon Fusion Black paint. The next step was to install the electrocoated black billet aluminum grille in place of the factory plastic one. The last part I installed were the night runner headlights I had purchased from the dealer. Altogether I love the way the truck looks now. The only chrome piece I have left is the rear bumper. Anyone looking for a bumper! LOL Thanks for looking and your comments are much appreciated.

Here are some pictures of my truck:

I found the grille on Ebay. The seller has a store and goes by the name foryar. They sell many types of grilles. I was highly impressed with this one because it is solid billet aluminum. It is thick and heavy. The black electrocoated paint looks awesome and like you said the fit was perfect. Direct replacement was just 6 minor drill holes to mount the screws. I would highly recommend. Plus it was $130 shipped to my door. Pretty inexpensive I thought.

That looks GREAT. I want to do mine, I hate the look of the plastic chrome. I was very disapointed when I could not get the sport option on my mega cab.

Did you paint the grill surround as well?

The Hummer rims are my winter rims. I exactly have a set a Weld Velocity 8's powder-coated black for my summer rims. I know I hate the Hummer rims but until I sell them and get Teflon Mojave's for the winters I am stuck with them. I had bought a ST grille (the grayish kind on the work trucks) off of Ebay which is the one that was painted. I didn't trust painting over that much chrome and the prep work to remove the chrome would have been a pain in the ***.

That looks great! I really like it!

I'm wanting to have my chrome grille surround painted to match my truck (Mineral Gray). I plan on leaving the inserts black. Once my Tough Country bumpers get I'll have black bumpers. I think it'll look sharp.
