The check engine light on my 06(59,000miles) came on this evening. On my 04, I remember cycling the key on and off a few times and receiving codes on the odom. I tried this on this truck and got nothing. I did get a chime and the cel flashed 10 times. I searched the forums and read one post that you couldn't check codes this way after 05. Is this true?

I do have symptoms. It feels like maybe a fuel issue. I can accelerate from around 2000rpm(in any gear-G56), and the truck will gain speed and "hit a wall. " Meaning, I lose the seat of the pants boost feel and it won't accel. any more. This usually happens at around 2700rpm.

Does this sound like lift pump? Low boost? My silencer ring is off and I don't really hear a whistle.

Thanks,

Ian

Forgot to add, I've only had this truck for about three weeks and don't know it's history. I've put about 1200 miles on it in this time.

I am no cummins guru, but in my truck after 2500 rpms, I lose the ability to gain horse power and speed. I have to shift gears and throttle down for more speed. This is a diesel, and not a gasser. Torque and Hp are made in the lower rpms unlike the gassers where they make them in the high rpms. Hopefully this helps and I am right?

Fuel filter is the first thing that comes to mind. Have your codes scanned to be sure. Without previous history, I would change all fluids/filters to be safe, anyway.

Changed the fuel filter first thing this morning and that seemed to have helped. The code was the infamous P0148.

I did some reading here and found out that any number of things could cause this. Hopefully, the filter was the culprit. I've already got two spares in case there's trash in the tank. I also read about putting a type of screen/filter on the tank vents. So, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes crap and water can enter fuel tank via the vent elbows on tank top. !8 inches of 1/4 inch id fuel line will plug right onto the elbow, run line down between tank and guard mounted on side of tank, on line bottom install a small cheap inline fuel filter. Theres two elbows you need this setup on each elbow.

Dodge had a recall on the 06s for this , but the problem has been there for years. My 98 had this problem. Dodges 06 fix was 6 inches of fuel line on the elbows with no filter on line end But they did change the fuel filter also. You need more then 6 inches of line and you need the cheap inline filters to keep crap from entering end of line.

Do you have a TSB# for this recall?? Does it apply to the 05 also?? I could probably get my dealer to do it under my extended warrnty if I had a TSB #.

TIA
