OK, I'll apologize in advance since I'm SURE this must have been discussed already. I tried about a half dozen searches to no avail;

I just bought another CTD. It's an '06 3500 SRW and it has no cab lights. In the past, 3500 SRW's all got the roof mounted clearance lights. When did this change?

Thanks

Dave

I noticed this too, my 05 srw has them so I would say it started in MY 06.

Just another cost cutting measure.

I'm looking at an '06 Dodge Commercial Guide out of an '06 Dodge Commercial Catalog. No I do not know why I have this literature... . However it says that cab clearance lights are an option on the single rear wheel HD trucks. I want one sooooo bad. But I don't think I can do it this year. Greg P. S. I want clearance lights too!

In 05 they were an option on the 2500, standard on all 3500's. So I would guess they are now an option on the 3500 SRW.

I wish it was that way last year, I would give you my clearance lights if it wouldn't leave holes in the roof.

you are correct about the option on single rear wheels. The dually has to have them D. O. T thing. As for the option on the single wheel most folks do not like them so it made them easy to keep off. I myself special ordered them on my 3500 single wheel.

I special ordered a swr 3500 and made sure they left them off. I just don't like the looks of them. Then when I put the pickup camper on they light up the bottom of the camper and distract me while driving.

I happen to like them, had them on both the '05 and '06. I can definately see where they would be irritating if you had a camper on though, never thought of that one :)

Dave,

I believe you can buy the cab light kit for about $80 at the dealer. The connector is supose to be under the liner. The dealer can also install.

Pete

Thanks guys,

I don't think I care enough to actually put them on the truck, I was just curious as to when DC changed it from being standard on all 3500's. Personally, I like them and I think duallies look strange without them, but on the SRW trucks, I could go either way. I also keep in mind that my '03 has had only two things fixed under warranty and one of them was a leaking cab light.

Cheers,

Dave

I've have the same problem with my camper on, which is an extended cab-over. Is there anyway of turning them off short of pulling the bulbs? I don't want to pull the fuse or all my running lights will go out.

Pull your driver's side a-pillar off and put a switch in-line with the wire that feeds the clearance lights. Then when you don't want them on, just turn the switch off.

I didn't want them on my 3500 SRW but understood it was a D. O. T requirement, as I didn't like the look BUT my main concern was leaks just don't like more holes in my truck than really required.

AS to installing a switch to turn them off even with a overhead camper That my be illegal I doubt you would be stopped but might want to check it out.

I know with my commercial trucks I would never place extra running lites on them as if one bulb burned out it I could be issued a ticket Sure don't want to have a reason to be pulled over.

the DOT requires them on trucks over 80 inches wide. That means DRW have to have them, as well as almost all truck campers.

As far as turning off the truck cleance lights, I don't see why there would be a problem when the camper is on, which has it's own clearance lights.

I have heard of people painting the bottom of the cabover black to cut down on the glare, but I would prefer to kill the lights.

Great idea, thanks.

We all have an opinion but I like the lights. A member of our club put them on my 01 for me a few years back. No problem with leaks or bulbs for the 4 or more yeas I had them on there.
