is there a silencer ring and turbo baffle on 2006 dodge i ton if so how hard is it to remove also can you remove cat without any codes being set

should asks the 3rd gen thread.

but the intake the silencer is the same as a 2nd gen, no code thrown. the baffle on the intake tube can be knocked out. or most get it replaced then they put on a after market intake kit. the cat. you can cut off and put a delete piece of pipe. wont throw any codes.

There are 3 "silencing" pieces in the intake of your 06. I recommenced removal of 2 of them. There is the traditional ring in the turbo, it wakes the noise up a little and sounds good.

The other to remove is the baffle in-between the upper and lower 90* elbows on the air inlet to the turbo. There are 2 ways it reduces sound, one is a X shaped baffle in the center. This is what most folks remove. I have never done it, but I hear you have to break it to remove it but it will increase noise. The other way is the side is baffled, and IMHO this really makes the air turbulent as it enters the turbo, so I don't see the point in only going half way to improve flow. I replaced mine with an Airaid MIT and saw increase spool, lower IATs, and a nice turbo whistle, but still passes the wife test towing at 30psi.

The last piece does double duty. Its a set of directional vanes in the lower elbow. It does dampen the sound quite a bit, but it also directs and smooths the airflow into the turbo. Holset/Cummins claims it improves turbo efficiency up to 30% (my guess is at low flow, but thats where you want it). I would leave that piece in place.

The cat can be removed without setting any codes, just keep it incase you ever need it.

AH64ID,

How long have you had the MIT??

Any idea how it might compare to the Silicone Cool Hoses??

Can you post pics of it installed??

TIA

AH64ID, I found pics, but still curious about how you chose it and like it and how you think it compares to the Cool Hoses??

Here are pix for those interested... this is the Airaid MIT tube only, not heir whole CAI system--

I have had it for 18 months or so, about 25K miles.

I chose the MIT becuase it retains the lower elbow which has directional vanes that are said to improved the efficiency of they turbo by 30%. IMHO the cool hoses promote turbulence, and my setup reduces it.

The cool hose is supposed to keep IAT temps down, but I am 6-12* above ambient on normal cruise, and +35 max with 30psi of boost on a hot day, I'll live with that as those are good temps.

I had the Cool Blue Hose on mine for a tank of fuel. No measurable increase in economy or power. It did increase the high pitch whistle somewhat. I sold it to a friend who can't tell the difference either. Nicely constructed piece, but until you get way up into the high hp I don't see the point unless you like whistle. After driving a 2nd gen for seven years,I appreciate the quiet of this truck.

I noticed a difference with my MIT instantly, mostly in the boost gauge, and the opacity of the smoke out the pipe. The gain isn't huge, but its there. I also saw quantifiable results on IAT, indicating smoother airflow.

All good info to have guys!!

For only around $75, looks like there is an MIT in my truck's future to go along with the homemade CAI and GDP horn.
Also I pretty sure that I'll eventually get the new GDP "highrise" manifold--

Glacier Diesel Power

... but that's another thread!!

THANKS!!!
