It's amazing they can still keep the turbo at 20psi with that power. Not sure about lowering the compression ratio though, seems like we're again going backwards as it sounds like we're moving more and more to diesels acting like a gas engine and having to rev higher and higher to make this horsepower.

It's still not a cummins...

I agree. I think the Duramax would be my 2nd choice with the Powerstroke a distant third. I like GM drivetrains in general. But the look of the Chevy / GMC trucks are so un-inspiring that I just can't bring myself to think of them as a possibility.

A F250 or F350 w/a Duramax or a CTD would be a nice truck tho.

yeh they have been talking about that over in one of the other forums for a couple weeks. Apparently they went to a cooled EGR emissions motor. Probably going to be a mistake. Only time will tell. They increase the fueling, then make it more emissions friendly. :D Assumptions are that it will probably be a very hot running motor.

Am I reading this right? The engine can produce 360 HP but its tuned down so the transmission can only handle 310?

The new Duramax 6600 in the Silverado and Sierra heavy-duty pick-ups will be available exclusively with the new Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission, featuring class-first features, like tap-shift range selection mode.

Read further down and you will see, if you want a stick, the original 300/520 rating remains. The Cummins remains the number one choice if you like clutch pedals... and if Dodge is smart, that's how they market the Cummins for 06.

HMMmmmm - another way of saying Ford and GM owners are a "shiftless" bunch?

;) :D

I don't think DC will sit still for this one..... we should expect an answer to GM in the not-too-distant future. Wonder what it'll be????

Crap, I'm still waiting for DC to answer the call of the 5sp auto, and now Chevy has announced a 6sp auto... DC has proven they're on their own timeframe releasing what they want to release, when they priortize it's ready for market... How many years has DC determined that a full crew cab didn't make sense from a marketing stand point.

With regards to the Chevy being deratted for manuals... . Doesn't Chevy have a dual mass flywheel? :-{} Sorry, couldn't resist. Search other threads if you have no idea what I'm talking about. :p

From all accounts, the last couple years the Duramax has been a reliable, solid engine. Sounds like this one is going to be nice.

Sounds like they are copy some of the Cummins features. Plus, increasing fuel pressure eek! I like simple design, I'll keep my Dodge. If I want more power than the Duramax I'll add a performance box, it's cheaper.

This is just my thoughts. With the rumors of a larger displacement Cummins and the 6sp auto in "07" I think DC will push the auto like Ford & Gm does with there auto. Maybe JUST maybe thats why they went to the DMF & the G56 transmission. Again just my thoughts. Jeff

That HP and torque ratings for the manual transmission is an absolute joke, didn't we have that much torque in the original H/O back in '01 or something?? GM has totally abandoned the stick market, I don't think you can even get a stick in a half ton.

Hate to say it but 5. 9 liters might not be sufficent , larger displacement needed? . Lets face it you can only squeeze so much from X amount of displacement before reliability becomes an issue.

These 3 Gen motors tend to run high egt's quick when you get on them .

It will interesting to see what will happen ,

10 ft-lbs here 5 horses there , all good marketing.

My 99 towed fine ,but you can never have too much power i guess.

Bragging rights you , don't need to pull a house but if i had to ..... :--)

Scott... not all accounts. Mine blew a head gasket and had many issues over the three years I owned it. Unsolvable defueling even when it was stock. Nice running truck but my opinion is the engine is not for the long haul. I wouldn't touch a used Dmax approaching 100,000 miles because the associated out of pocket repair costs could be astronomical. I don't think most feel the same about a Cummins approaching 100,000 miles.
