2007, 5.9, G56, 4X4...Which clutch the best?

Dunno. Could be that, like any machine, some things just fail. Even the best designed system will, from time to time, experience a failure. I have an 05 w/G56, now at 82,000 miles, with no transmission issues. I did put new Amsoil ATF in it at around 50K.

It whined in 5th & 6th gear only. The dealer said it was normal, my transmission shop said it was input shat bearing. The dealer ended up replacing the input shaft bearing under warranty.

the dual mass flywheel is most likely the cause of it. south bend makes the best kit. it has a solid flywheel with a real pilot bearing , disc , pressure plate and new hydraulics

Make that 83,250 miles with no issues, and I'm running an additional 60 HP and no turbo lag to boot w/Smarty S-06 4. 12 on SW 3. That and one size bigger rims/tires, otherwise bone stock. Bottom line, if it's made by a man or machine, it isn't foolproof. Never will be.

I agree that south bend is the best clutch on the market... but if anything, that would cause the input bearing to go out sooner.

The solid flywheel allows much more NHV to be transmitted to the input shaft than the stock dual mass flywheel. Compensating with a Fluidampr helps some, but damaging torsional vibration still exists that provide accelerated wear to the input shaft bearing.

I disagree. I have both a solid flywheel and a DMF. The DMF is a joke. Even my wife can tell you that the solid flywheel is superior in practical use. What ever NVH it sees is definatly negated by the banging the the trans sees from the DMF with anything but a seemless shift. We are talking dead on RPM shifting, not beating on the clutch either. The only complaint that I have is that the CON OFE in my 95 (yes G56ed truck) does rattle some.
