2006 key remote doesn't unlock doors

I have a 2006 with 7500 miles. If my truck sits for more than 4 hours the key remote doesn't unlock the doors (pushing on the unlock button). I have to insert the key in the door lock and open the driver door that way. When I open the door the alarm activates (horn), if I then push the unlock button the horn shuts off immediately (key fob now works).



Weird, hugh. I put in a new key fob battery, so I know its not that.



When I park my truck the lock button always works (locks doors and activates alarm). If I try to lock and unlock, the key remote works just find.



It seems like the alarm/unlock module goes into a weird mode after sitting for a few hrs, but at soon as I open the door by inserting key, comes alive.



Any Ideas?

My 06 had a SIMILAR problem... but mine just wouldn't lock sometimes by pushing the button. So I disconnected both neg battery cables for about 15 minutes and it has been fine ever since. You might try that! Can't hurt. . these darn COMPUTER controlled vehicles!!!

Funny you posted this, because I had the same problem, I had the truck in at the dealer to fix my A/C and told them about the key. They ended up replacing my key, here is the quote from the service sheet "found invalid skim key code. . replaced rke/fob and programmed... cleared code... tested ok" , it has been working great so far, only had it back for a day though. The mechanic said something on the key's circuit board breaks sometimes, and it can be intermittent, like mine was.

Thanks ropeteacher, it worked. The remote works just like new.



Also my temp display on the over head console, seems to work a lot better (updates faster, seems more accurate),

P. S. you also saved me about 3 hrs of work (uninstalling and installing my edge attitude prior to taking to dealer).
