2WD provides 99% of my needs, it gets almost 20 mpg and isn't even close to being broke in, I can usually improvise to accomplish the other 1% on my needs without 4WD, Why would I want a 4WD with the death wobbles, poor milage, howling gears, did I mention poor fuel milage? ;)

Yeah, I just LOVE the guys who don't understand why their nice'n shiny new 4x4 doesn't get the same MPG as the dirty 4x2 their buddy owns...

Hey, ya gotta PAY (in more ways than one!) for all that extra hardware down there in the drivetrain! :p :-laf

your overhead LIES at least on mine the closest its ever been is 1mpg but up to 5mpg write now mine says 23. 7mpg but its more like 19to 20 mind you Im not com plaining but my overhead has never been write thats in 110,000 miles still love my truck but with winter fuel my mileage is down towing 10 to 12mpg ,hwy unloaded 18 to 20mpg the up side is your mileage will go up with more miles mine started at 9mpg towing was up to 12 to 14 all and all I love my truck

I have the truck in sig. below, I want to replace 265 70-17 with 285 70-17. I'm told that this will hurt my power and mileage a lot. I'm wondering if I will notice much difference with the taller tires.

Bigger tires do hurt mileage and performance (accel, braking,... ) becasue of the greater rolling mass and the change in the effective gearing ratio..... if you have 4. 10 rear end, no worries... .

I have the 3. 73 and I shared the same concerns as you, so i opted for 285's in lieu of 35"'s... . no worries what so ever, barely noticible difference, not a big deal at all on a stock truck... .

Now that i've added the smarty and power isnt an issue, I may get a lift and 35" tires after I get my transmission done... we'll see. Recomment the toyo's or nitto's... . nitto's becasue I have them and they're great, toyo's becasue everyone on the board has them with few complaints (i just couldnt find any when I went to purchase)... .

Good luck
