Carfax

That would be "Mr. Diksh it" to you....

If I try to backup with my driver's door open the sucker just starts honking like crazy. Not a beep beep beep like a backup, but a *HONK*HONK*HONK*!!

I was up in the mountains trying to back up to turn around in the cove our chalet was in, and the best way to "not" fall off the 50 foot plunge was to open my door to guide myself. Instead I nearly killed myself with that d*mn horn blowing at me.

Is this a new '06 feature? Cause it sucks. Like automatic flushing toilet seats which suck down the seat protector everytime you put it on.

Yup it is new for 06, you can thank all those people who could not push the shifter into the park position for that one. Chrysler responded by putting an annoying feature like that in for you; I do believe that it can be disabled with the starscan though not too sure will have to look...

i'm so thankful i live in a country full of bottom-feeding, ambulance chasing lawyers and imbeciles who spill hot coffee on themselves so now every company i do business with has already anticipated every possible "unconventional" way i might use their product and they've already applied a warning sticker, an alarm, a lockout or my very favorite, including a 3 page instruction manual that's grown to 94 pages because it's printed in 35 different languages. i've had it with this "nanny state" crap. mind your own business, leave me alone & stop trying to protect me from myself and should a few cretins "buy it" misusing a product, well there's too many idiotic people in this world anyway so it's no real loss and it's not called "stupid human tricks" for nothing AND they drive gas powered chevy so who cares.

Amen!

Oo. could not have said it better myself ever notice all of the child protection devices out now, why is all these hundreds of years we have all survived and now children can't? Like you said mostly lawyer driven, but hey we have no big brother... .

Unbelievable! :-laf :-laf :-laf

So what did they do here. . take the voluntary auto trans recall fix and permanently apply it to the 06's?

I hate this kinda stuff, like locking me in when I get up to speed. . that was the first thing to go, I decide if I want to be locked in thank you.

It's called liberals... they don't want to take responsibility for themselves and always want to put the blame on someone else.

Can you imagine if 50 years ago they had someone try to sue a company because they spilt hot coffee on themselves? They would throw it out of the court and tell the person they're a dumb*ss.

Can you imagine if 50 years ago they had a burglar suing a home owner for having an unsafe house, dogs that bit him, or a homeowner for shooting him? The court would not only throw it out, but they'd throw the burglar in jail.

Today... the company is to blame for the coffee being too hot, and the homeowner has to pay the burglar millions because they didn't make their home safe enough and they shouldn't have used an evil gun to protect themselves.

So now because of them, we get stupid seat belt warnings and your own car honking at you for trying to backup.

Yeah, freaked me out when I just wanted to back up a few inches to my trailer so I left the door open, didn't know what the hell was going on. lol

SUBJECT:

Out Of Park Sense Alarm

MODELS:

2006 (DH/D1) Ram Truck

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5. 9L Turbo Diesel Engine

DISCUSSION:

Vehicles with a diesel engine and an automatic transmission are equipped with an alarm

that warns the customer, upon exiting the vehicle, that the transmission is not in the “Park”

position. This feature will only be functional under following conditions:

· engine running

· foot off the brake pedal

· driver’s seat belt is unbuckled

· driver’s door is open.

When this feature is triggered the horn will sound, the high beams and turn signal lamps

will flash. This will continue until one of the following conditions is met:

· engine is turned off

· transmission is in “Park”

· driver’s seat belt is buckled

· brakes applied.

THIS FEATURE IS STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND CANNOT BE DISABLED.

Here is the TSB on it, sucks for the 2006 owners! So, just leave the seatbelt buckled, that wil stop it!

Well if there is really a problem with the Prndl, and indeed it looks like the truck is in park when you get out but its really in reverse, it should fool this system if they use a switch on the prndl to trigger this event.

But if they are using some kind of pressure sensor on the reverse system of the trans, it should give you a warning, and be easy to duplicate at the dealers. The good side is this should prove to Dodge there really is a problem (if they are using trans reverse hydraulic pressure to trigger this feather).

So I have to put my seatbelt on to backup my own truck with the door open? How thoughtful of Dodge to assume its owners so stupid. No, I don't blame them, I blame the people that sue for everything and force them to this stupditiy.

Like Jonathan Burk said, this is more for the inattentive people who talk on a cell phone, read the paper and shave hile they drive, not the other senseable 99% of us in America! Don't hate D/C, it is a CYA move, that's all!

I wonder what the average age is of all the members on this forum, because we've all made it to adulthood and we didn't have this warning bull**** that is out now for everything. What ever happened to natural selection and survival of the fittest? No wonder our population is growing at an exponential rate, all the stupid people are still living because they've been warned that doing stuff can be detrimental to your health...

Unfortunatly there is some truth to that....

Ever noticed that a majority (not all by any means) of todays kids are absolutly clueless? I mean I know about 12 kids all in the early teen to upper teens and they have absolutly no clue how to do anything for themselves, I am only 26 but I was taught how to think for myself and keep myself busy along with being smart enough to not do x-y-z. My new step brother who is 15 has got to be the most helpless individual on the face of the planet... I mean he cannot do anything without someone having to say hey go do this or hey go do that otherwise he stands there with this "Duh what do I do now" look. My uncles to be step son is the same way he is 14 and always saying "gee I'm bored" well go do something and then it is the "like what" They have no ability to do anything for themselves! Not to say they are not smart in the book sense but come on! We can thank ourselves for this though the lawyers have made it this way, and the way things are going it is only going to get worse since politics seem to be pushing for more big brother intervention... . Anyhow enough ranting thanks for letting me vent :{

MCrossley- I think that has allot to do with everything being handed to them.

Kids now days don't even want to leave home cuz they got it all there. They hang on to their youth much longer than past generations.

Here is a funny one. . A couple years ago our son drove his sisters car to school one day and left the lights on, dead battery and he says. . well her car doesn't have the dinger to tell you the lights are on when you turn the key off!! All I could say was OMG!

I will have to show him this post and ask if he would like the horn update done to his 03 and see what he says :-laf

jonathon, don't even get me started on the burglar alarm crap. how many of you guy are aware of the "castle doctrine" that's only in a couple states and no longer requires you to retreat in your own home if someone breaks in before using lethal force against the intruder?????????? it is absolutely absurd you'd have to retreat at all to protect your home. i have a couple buddies who are cops tell me if i ever had to defend my home like that the only way i'd be safe from any prosecution would be to allow myself to be injured first and that if i did have to shoot a burglar to make sure he's not shot in the back and is most certainly dead to avoid civil prosecution & end up paying his hospital bills. what spineless, cowardly, criminal-loving, liberal genious thought that one up. i'm sick of having everything i'm into regulated, scrutinzed, sued almost out of business, demonized and every other tactic the intolerant, politically correct crowd use to fulfill their perverted, naive agendas while criminals are coddled and made out to be victims. it shouldn't be anyone's business what i drive, what fuel i burn, what i eat, how big my house is, what i smoke, what i shoot, what i watch or read etc. GET OUT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't smoke cigarettes & yeah they're nasty but they're still legal so the other crowd rather than go the honorable route & try to have them made illegal their pompous, arrogant, self righteous, do-gooder mentalities try to sue them out of existence, print warnings that are like "no *****? really?" and go as far as trying to outlaw smoking them in your own home or car. this is just pure, unamerican, unethical, dishonest, socialist, unacceptable crap and i've had enough. and mcrossley, if there's more posts in this thread we'll compare family and i'll post all about my useless, incompetent 25yo brother in law who can't cook himself a meal or buy his own cigarettes but he's had no problems fathering 2 illegitimate kids by 2 different mothers and owes lots of back $$$$$$$$$. thanks guys for letting me vent. we should keep this going because we probably all have stuff we'd like to share & get off our chests, stuff the "wine & cheese" guys just don't get but then again all their tools fit neatly in a kitchen drawer.

and while i'm on a rant. you want to see a perfect example of this ridiculous, hysterically precautious, over regulation check out 6 & 7 year old kids in car seats. it's almost like a sketch on "madtv" to see kids almost the size of a small woman in a friggin' baby seat. this is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and while i'm at it how about the hypocracy in ct. where you MUST wear a seatbelt but motorcyle helmets are optional. just sittin' here shaking my in disbelief that this crap is actually going on.
