Leaving for PDR on the 8th. Need anything hauled up there?

In the most current issue of 4 wheeler, there is an article about the 2006 dodge ram. It says that dodge has redesigned the front end of the trucks, they have added amber turn signals under the head lights (like the current ford superdutys) and the bumper will have a larger, flat face. What do u all think of this? I hope that they don’t change the headlights to be as bulgy as the new Dakotas are? Because that would just kill the trucks good looks in my opinion. Also, why would dodge want to copy an idea form ford. Usually ford is the one steeling ideas from dodge.

Well the germans own them. So I would expect that ugly euro look.

I think the new super duty truck is the best looking truck now. I'm sure ford had too look hard for there new diesign. (Dodge)

i though the trucks were still designed here in the united states, as far as i have ever heard these truck are only sold in the US, Canida and Mexico, correct me if i am wrong.

I also don't like the new Dakota front end. It seems that in the quest for something different, automotive designers tend to turn 180 deg. I personally don't like the angular look and had applauded DC's efforts to create designs that were smooth and flowing such as the Viper, PT Cruiser, Ram trucks, etc. rather than the angular "straight line" look of some of the competition (eg. GM Avalanche, Aztec, Ford Focus, Cougar, etc. )

Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens.

I also don't like the new Dakota looks. The "spy" shot in 4-wheeler of the 06 ram does look pretty cool. Actually, that issue has lots of Dodge stuff including the story about the Cummins V8 for 1/2 ton trucks and the "pickup truck of the year" which is the Power Wagon.

I'll add another negative comment on the Dakota front end. I was hoping that they would keep the current (old) body style because it looked so much like our 2nd Gen trucks. Kinda like a mini-version.

I am glad that they are redesigning the front end of the new Ram, though. I've always hated the new body style, especially that huge grill. Maybe this will be an improvement. I wouldn't even consider buying a 3rd Gen truck simply because of the looks, maybe when I'm ready for a new one Dodge will provide something that looks decent.

Sorry if I've offended any proud 3rd Gen owners. We can't deny that it has the best engine in it though!

I can't see why any 3rd genners would be offended by your comments! :D

I had a 2001. 5 before I got my 04. 5. When the erd gens came out, there was much discusson here about the 3rd gen styling. Consenses was that we did not like it. While I still prefer the 2nd gen styling to the 3rd gen, "resistance is futile".

The 3rd gen model that is the least apealing IMHO is the regular cab models. The roof line just looks like part of the truck was cut off, which is exactly the case. The 2nd gen regular cab looks like a conventional pick-up truck.

I had a 97 Dakota and I loved the looks of it then they went and screwed it up like they did when they went from the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen personally I think they are one of the ugliest things on the planet just my opinion. Does anyone know why the 3rd gen trucks and the later model cars are designed the way they are  remember back when Mother Mopar bought out AMC they hired on the designers of such cars as the hornet, matidore, and the GREMLIN :-laf

C'mon, Dave, just because a 3rd gen truck looks like a 2nd gen truck that had the exhaust brake stick closed until the whole body was inflated... . ;) :D :-laf

Ouch! Doesn't bother me at all as a 3rd gen owner when people say they're really ugly... . beauty is too subjective to get "mad" or "upset" at anyone for their opinions of it. It's like getting mad at someone who thinks Elanore Roosevelt was ugly.

When the 3rd gen trucks came out I was very disappointed, actually. I was really hoping that the 3rd gen would look very much apart from a 2nd gen truck instead of like a 2nd gen truck with a stuck e-brake (good description, Rusty). In many ways I'm still disappointed but I have learned to like the body more than the 2nd gen body style. I like a giant "mouth" of a grille up front. Just opinions.

The more I think about it, the more I must recommend that issue of four wheeler. I don't subscribe to it (I look over the car/truck magazines almost every month and buy one from the store if it has something I find interesting), but the latest issue has some good stuff in it for Dodge. They review the power wagon and the new dakota and they've got a nice article on stock axle strengths.

That second picture looks like the turn signal is still beside the headlight. Those actually don't look too much different from the current style. IMHO.

The truck in the second picture is the mega cad concept and I think that truck sill does have the current style lights. I like how the hood if flatter and the grill appears less bubbly on the truck in the first picture. If it looks like how I imagine it to, I might just have to upgrade the front end of my truck. Also does dodge honestly think they are going to fool any one with those covers on the trucks?
