Looking at purchasing a 2006 cc with a 9' dump bed. The truck is four wheel drive with six speed manual and 3. 73 gears w/ 5. 9 cummins. The questions I have are: towing capacity, does the engine come with an engine brake also I would be putting up my dually for sale and was wondering what the trade off's would be between the two trucks. Athanks for any help, Frank

No, it doesn't have an exhaust brake as standard equipment but a Jacobs, PacBrake, or other can easily be installed. A 9' dump bed is capable of holding a lot more weight than a 3500 Ram is capable of hauling. If the truck you are considering is a dually it probably has a GVWR of 11,500 lbs. The bed and lift hardware has already added 1000 lbs. or more. How much load carrying capacity will it really have?

Are you sure it is an '06 cab/chassis, maybe built in '06 but is an '07?? I don't think Ram built a cab/chassis in '06.

Nick

I thought "cc" in the op referred to an extended cab. No, it is certainly not a cab and chassis truck if its an '06 model. None were built for '03 through '06.

Its possible that it is a 07 MY C&C bought in 06. They were first available in 06, but if its a 5. 9 then its a reg truck.

Thanks for all your replies. The truck I'am intrested in is about four hours away and have only seen two pictures of the truck. It is a 2006 Slt 3500 w/ dual rear wheels, 4x4, six speed manual, 5. 9 Cummins diesel, w/ a Rugby Mason dump installed, w/ 12,000 miles on truck. Spoke to the owner a few times and I assumed it was a cab & chassis truck, because durning one of our conversations he said it cost him $10,000. 00 to have the dump installed back in 06' (he is the original owner). Will place another call and ask if the truck came w/ a bed which later he took off and installed the dump and also need the vin so I can get a car fax. I assumed it was a cab & chassis (you no what happens if you assume something!), anyway when I purchased my 03' dually my intent was to remove the 8' box and install a dump body on it. Every where I took the truck to get an estimate for this upgrade, I was told that the truck was never intended or designed to have a dump in stalled on it. So when I saw the ad for this 06" w/ a dump bodied installed I thought it was a C&C truck. I will let you all know what else I find out on this vechicle. Any other questions I should ask this guy would be appriciated. Thanks, Frank

It sounds like a nice truck (12,000 miles) for an '06. Was it in the Sandy flood?:)

Depending on your needs/use it might work fine. Some things to consider; A standard pickup has a shorter wheelbase than a C/C, so the 9' bed might be too long for good weight balance. Also the C/C has heavy duty rear springs v/s the regular pickup.

Nick

Frank,

See if they will send you some pictures. Tell them you want to see the frame and how the dump is mounted.

If you don't know how to post them on here just forward them to me at -- email address removed -- and I will post them for you. I think the frame alone will tell us if it is a ton dually rather than a C & C.

Mike the truck is up near Albany NY. I put a call into the owner and left a message. I found the truck on Commercial Truck Trader, type in 2006 dodge ram 3500. He has three pictures posted. The truck is bright silver, asking $33,500. 00. Thanks, Frank

That's the one!!! Owner keeps the truck in all winter, truck has never been plowed with or seen salt! Pays to have it garaged over the winter months!Just got in and owner called & left message, he bought the truck with no body back in 06', he says it was a C&C TRUCK? Also, says another guy from Jersey is interested in the truck, if he doesn't show up today I'am the next guy in line.

He is mistaken or deceiving you. RAm did not build a cab and chassis truck in 2006.

There are significant differences between a pickup and c&c. That truck could haul a yard of dirt or gravel or tree trimming cuttings but filling the bed with dirt or gravel will overload it.

Frank,

You'll be putting a plow on it also, right??? And a sander in the back???

If you drive it yourself and keep it away from your shift lever breakin' driver you will be fine... . make it your truck alone.

I don't think that it was a C & C, rather a one ton with the body taken off or deleted.

I could fill this post with pictures of 1 ton trucks (Dodges, GMs, and Fords) just running around Bangor set up the same way.

There is a 1 ton GM with dump here in the driveway that belongs to the company, has a 9 foot Fisher Plow and a full body Buyers Stainless Steel Sander in the back. It is loaded at all times during the winter. It has lost one automatic transmission because they were plowing too much in high range and cooked it. Can't blame the truck for that one... ...

Maybe not the right way, but if you pay attention it will work just fine.

Guys thanks for all your replies. Yes, Mike that is my intention, to install a plow (actually remove the 9'-2" Boss "V" plow on my present dually along w/ the 8' stainless salt spreader). Shouldn't there be a sticker on the drivers door panel stating "not complete vehicle" (something to that effect ? ). Then wouldn't that prove it was a C&C FROM THE FACTORY???

Yes, that might do it. Or as I say, a picture of the frame rails. If the first buyer in line passes then ask for some more pictures.

The other guy has not called for the past two days, the owner said it's mine, come up and take it for a test drive. I did ask him about the frame of the truck and weather it is a pickup with a bed delete or actually a C&C. He told me ordered the truck in May of 06', once the truck arrived at the dealership, the dealer sent out to Rugby to have the dump installed. Also, he states that behind the cab the frame rails dip down then go back up towards the rear tires. Don't know if that would be for all trucks made that year or indeed it is a C&C truck. Anyway, I asked for the VIN number so I could get a car fax. He said no problem and he would e-mail the info. tomorrow. As far as the truck handling the loads he has loaded it in the past, no problem what so ever. I'll keep you guys informed. Frank

We are all yapping about the 2007 as that was the first year of the true cab and chassis that had the 34" flat frame. There is nothing wrong with the '06, the hard work of fitting the dump body to the somewhat wierd frame rails has already been done for you.

Here is a blurb about the 2007 cab and chassis introduction... .

http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/medium-duty.html

With that 2007 launch and the addition of the 4500 and 5500 Ram really got back in the game. Notice the increase in numbers of Ram tow trucks, ambulances, roll-backs, etc.

Mike.

Mike your right - I'am planning on going up this Friday with certified check. Got the price down to $31,000, thought about putting that money down as a down payment on a new 2013 - 5500 (and financing another 30k or more!). Just don't like on making any payments over the next five years. Plus I own 2004 International w/ 18' grain body that does all the heavy work. I just wanted something smaller to help out with the smaller jobs, and it sounds like this 06' would just be the ticket. Also, the owner just e-mailed me the VIN #3D6WX46C06G254465. I never did ask him what size wheels where on the truck 17's or 19's. I'll find out in a few days. Just bought a car fax report, everything seems to check out, one owner, no accidents,no air bag deployment, no indication of odometer roll back, last inspection was in June of 12' mileage at the time was 11,933, (owner says current mileage is 12,100). We shall see. Frank
