Hi all,

My ram is currently in the shop. Went out to my truck from lunch and turned the switch on and nothing happened. Gauge lights came on, everything looked fine, just no turnover. Nothing. Interestingly, the door lock/unlock on my key would not work either. Nor my wifes key. Had the truck towed to the local dodge dealership, and the great guys down there told me it was a faulty modulator. He pulled a fuse out of the fuse box for 10 seconds, put it back in, and the truck turned on. He said this would only work for a little while, as the modulator was not completely shot. Left the truck at the dealer until the new modulator comes in. Hopefully tomorrow, since my family and i are going camping this weekend.

On a side note, the tech at the dealership did pull me aside and and warned me about my Edge juice/with attitude monitor. The usual "this voids the warranty" talking to. He was pretty cool about it though.

UPDATE:

The service tech at the local Dodge dealership has installed 3 new modulators on the truck, and none of them would recognize the keys for the truck. My truck remains in the shop. They said they have never seen anything like this before, and they are on the line with STAR, or something like that, to try and figure out what is wrong. Possibly a software update or firmware is needed to resolve it, not sure.

I'll post updates as i get them.

I hope they dont come back and ding you because of the Edge box. Seems like when something "unexplainable" comes up, they will point straight at the box and say that is what caused it, warranty wont cover it.

 Good luck!

Called the service desk and spoke to the service manager. They still don't know what is going on... . They are waiting to hear something back from Chrysler. They don't know when it will get fixed. I asked for a loaner car and they said they do not do that anymore... . lucky me.

When my dad's TIPM went out it was from a hot wire, I think starter, rubbing on the frame and sparking it out. Might have them check for that.

Thanks for the info guys. I might have to try another dealer. The original dealer i bought the truck from, Clarke motors in Winchester, Va is no longer in business. Again, lucky me. I'll have to search for another... .

I've only had the no crank twice. Surprisingly exactly 362 days apart. This year, I'm waiting for the first week of October to see what happens.

Keep us posted, and good luck getting it back by the weekend.

Ok, here's the lowdown:

Service manager calls me,and says they finally had to recut new vehicle keys in order for the modulator to recognize them. They are putting everything back together now, except for my Edge juice w/attitude monitor. They said i have to rehook that back up. Of course, got read the riot act again because of that. Luckily the guy is not going to say anything to Chrysler about it.

My thoughts are, shouldn't they have tried new keys several days ago?? Seems like a lot of troubleshooting was involved here. I would have tried that days ago, but i'm not a mechanic, i'm a network engineer by trade. Guess i should just be happy it is fixed and i'm not in trouble with my warranty, which i only have another 12,000 miles left on it.
